More about Ritz Salmiya Kuwait

High-rise

by baronedivandastad

Wherever you go in Kuwait, you can't miss the high rise buildings that are popping up like mushrooms when wealthy local investors flooded the country with money after Saddam Hussein's capture in 2003. The number of residential, shopping and office complexes that are under construction easily tops 100, and there seems to be a new building site every day.

The skyline in Salmiya is actually quite impressive, and rivals that of Dubai or some American cities.

Zahra Mall Kuwait

by ria1

Zahra (Salem Al-Mubarak St, Salmiya)is worth mention. Its been around longer than me. Back in the 80's it was the best place to shop. Here you will find the La Perla boutique (great PJs and bathing suits), Why & a Half, I PInco Pollini Boutique (designer childrenswear.) There is also a fantastic and unique selection of european designer clothes and shoes (Comfort Shoe is great.) Here you will also find some nice jewelry shops.

It has a beautiful Crescent Side

by pangtidor about Marina Mall

Marina Mall is located at the Arabic Gulf Street at Salmiya area. Its interior design is one of the best ones for the malls. You may dine in at the Crescent side, can be reached by a bridge in front of Harley Davidson stand, at the book section of Virgin Megastore. See my things to do tips: Marina Crescent Side. There are more options for the food courts on the third floor. It has many fashion stores on the second floor, and the parking place will be on the ground floor.

Johnny Rockets

A '50s Style Burger Place in case you're from another planet and never heard of it.

There was one newly opened in Marina Mall, and the other in some forgotten area Al salmiya..we went to the forgotten area one

Boy was it crowded! It was obviously old, don't let that fool you, book in advance!

We were lucky, found some girls that our friends knew and took over their table before the waiter noticed...not many happy looks from the waiting list people *evil grin* Chocolate Shake (must have)
Cheese burger
Chilli Cheese Fries
Chicken sandwitch with cheese

Mariam Complex Kuwait

by ria1

Last but not least I must mention Mariam Complex (Salem AlMubarak St, Salmiya). It is a hole in the wall of a mall, but damn they got some good clothes. On the ground floor there is the Guess Store and some really nice clothes shops. One side of the basement is Al-Othman, the home of Mathew Williamson in Kuwait. They also carry fantastic evening dresses by Temperly, Escasda, and Ellie Saab. One word: WOW. The other half of the basement is taken up by a store called "The Basement" which basically carries designer childrenswear. Here you can Find Mona Lisa, Guess, D&G, Kenzo, and Elle. They also carry a grand of healthy childerens shoes: Naturino.

Where to stay?

by Fitzjerat

Hiya,

My office will be located near Sheraton hotel. I've heard a lot about the traffic jams in Q8, which area should I rent a furnished apartment(if available) in? Dasman, Bned al Ghar, Hawalli or Salmiya? Any other suggestion?
Appreciate all the help i can get!

Fitz.

RE: Where to stay?

by hamsterbag

hi
it depends on your budget as to were you stay, most apartments are in Salmiya and Hawalli, but it dont matter were youre staying as you will hit the trafic at the sheraton werever you come from.

RE: RE: Where to stay?

by siinq8

Depends what time you start/finish work too. Worst times are between 7 and 8am and 1.30-2.30pm. Bneid Al Gar or Dasman are your best bets to miss the traffic as they are close to the first ring road which does not get that busy. The worst areas are those where the schools are located such as Salmiya, Jabriya and Hawalli.

RE: RE: Where to stay?

by siinq8

Forgot to mention, Sheraton roundabout does get pretty congested, but not as bad as some of the roads in and around Salmiya, Hawalli and Jabriya.

Hi guys,
thanks v. much for all your tips!!
I forgot to ask, are there dhobis or laundries around, expensive? & how do they charge, by the piece or kilo?

Cheers,
Fitz.

RE: RE: Where to stay?

by siinq8

Yes, there are loads of laundries about and they are cheap and quick. I pay half a dinar per shirt which covers laundering and ironing. I think trousers cost about three quarters of a dinar.

cost of accomodation in Kuwait

by applecross

What could one be expected to pay per month for a 1 bedroom apartment in one of the better areas of Kuwait City - or Mangat

RE: cost of accomodation in Kuwait

by q8ian

I pay KD230 per month for a very small apartment (furnished) in a complex with a gym and pool - its not fancy though. Generally you would be more than this though - KD275 - 350 might be more realistic. In deciding where you stay you should take the traffic into account. In some popular areas such as Salmiya the traffic is horrendous on weekends (thurs and fri) and the place is clogged solid.

RE: cost of accomodation in Kuwait

by aymank

from kuwait cuty to salmiya, on the coast line, you would have to budget 250 to 400 KD.
if you go inward, and away from kuwait city, budgets run between 200-300 KD depending on area and quality. i'd say 250-300 you can find some good places but u will have to be patient.
I suggest you search in Baghdad street and around the American University areas. Do plan how you will be moving around as traffic can be a problem in the evenings, especially in week ends.
