Western journalists stayed here during the war

    by

This is a four star hotel in the peaceful muslim side of Beirut, in the middle of the well-known Hamra area. It is an interesting place to stay if you are interested in history. The western journalists lived here during the war (1975-1990).
Downstairs in the lobby you can still find some old newspapers and articles.

Our double room had an own balcony which was nice. A quiet and peaceful hotel in good area.

Watch out for the local taxis in front of the hotel; they'll recognize immediately you are a turist and may try to sell their services. They are not dangerous, but they are expensive - if you find a way, try to hire a local driver with a car instead, with either an hourly fee or a fixed sum and you save a lot of money. They accept also US dollars.

Recommended for those seeking for things related to history, war history and other special places and things.

Unique Quality: Nice balcony with a view over the city. When listening to the prayer calls from the mosqs' towers you really felt nice and special and got the feeling you are in Middle East.

Part of the Starwood Preferred Guest Hotels.

    Directions: Hamra district

More about Le Meridien Commodore

The best 4* hotel I've seen so far

by asvetlana about Le Meridien Commodore

An excellent hotel at very reasonable prices ... if you book online. I paid $86 per night for a single room (tax included) booking with hotels.com. The rates quoted at the reception were about 3 times higher.
The room was very comfortable, with enough space and even a balcony (not a view though, but who cares). The hotel boasts a swimming pool, 4 restaurants (including Japanese and Italian) and a gym. Never had the chance to try them, though - so much else to see and do around.
What I found quite unique are those little sparkles of wit, written on small cards and sous-vertes, that give advice and set the mood (hope you can see the picture).
