Highly recommended

Friendly staff, stylish presentation, all necessary services including wi-fi, a very pleasant 4 star hotel. Rooms are a good size with quality inclusions and great bathrooms, including bathtub. The hotel design focus is nicely modern and slightly overt, which is what you want from a contemporary, art style hotel.

We stayed in April 2007 and had a great time. Staff were helpful in arranging hire cars and providing information when requested. The hotel staff even organised a delicious cake and bowl of fruit while we were out of the hotel at dinner, because they noticed from my passport that it was my birthday. This may or may not be unusual but it made us feel very welcome.

Location is a good one at the start of the Corniche with views over the Mediterranean, and one of the world's maddest intersections. Prices seemed very reasonable to us everywhere in Lebanon... the tourist industry is still suffering from last year's troubles and there is plenty of competition. We paid USD100 per night, including a good breakfast, for a double room with excellent views.

We would happily stay at the Monroe again anytime.

Central and modern

I didn't stay at the Monroe, but I've attended several events here-- a play, a reception..and I've had close friends staying at it a few times. Its located right next to the Phoenicia Intercontinental, and quite close to the Beirut corniche. Its a stylish, trendy hotel. Its rooms are new, yet they are small (in lebanese standards) or meduim (european standards)..Although this hotel is very close to the sea, there are only a few of the suites which overlook the sea..the remaining rooms face either the Starco area (in the direction of downtown)..or the Phoenicia Hotel.

The lobby isnt very spacious, but its comfortable..and the hotel usually has a play running on weekends..and then on all days of the week, you can enjoy having dinner at Al-Awtar, a lebanese restaurant in this hotel -- with a belly-dancer, music, food, shisha and all!

All in all, I say its a good hotel..if you want to be close to everything, and you're not willing to spend all you have on Le Vendome or the Phoenicia Inter.

Unique Quality: - Close to the corniche
- Close to the downtown area
- Close to Hamra

...basically, a central location for tourists.

Marliyn Monroe and Beirut

Inspired by Marilyn Monroe and refurbished late 2005/early 2006, this hotel is cleanly designed and presented with just the right touch of vibrancy so as to not throw it anywhere near gaudy or ridiculously overdone. Good service and an ideal location (very close to downtown and Ashrafieh as well as the Corniche and Hamra) make it worth staying at if you don't mind shelling out the $150 a night.

Unique Quality: 2 restaurants, hair salon, Budget Rent-a-Car on site, pool

Good for business

Efficient hotel..though very quiet when i was there in the summer...
You cant miss the exterior colour...which stands out in all Beirut as far as originality is concerned
I was in a comfortable and clean junior suite though some business facilities promised were not delivered!
The place felt refurbished...which is a good thing...but if more of that enthusiasm goes into services ..everyone will be a winner from hotel to customers..

Unique Quality: The lounge bar known as Sandersons (ex-Peppermint?)
is a great venue for coffees, hard drinks, organised parties, and breakfast in the morning (good bread)
tha Awtar restaurant in the basement..works as a belly dancing venue weekends...just remember not to go too early!

All in all a stylish and modern setting for the business traveller...

Accomodation

by Princy

We are travelling to Beirut for one week and we are looking for accomodation that is quite central. We have been recommended the areas Solidare and Verdun. We are attending a wedding in Solidare so we were thinking that maybe it would be better for us to stay there. What do you think?
Thank you in advance for your answers!

Hello!!
Beirut, isnt such a big city, so nearly every area is good. The best places for you to stay are Solidare, Verdun, and Hamra, because they in the center of the city, and near Solidare area.
In Solidare there are two good hotels, The Pheonicia Inter Continental Hotel, and Monroe Hotel. At Verdun there is Holiday Inn Dunes Hotel. The Hamra area also has a lot of hotels.
If you need any more information just email me.
Bye.

Hi

I recommend you visit: www.ikamalebanon.com

You will find a wide range of hotels and furnished appartments, as for the pricing I'm not sure if it's updated, but you still can check it...

You can also try "Ashrafieh" AREA WHICH IS VERY CLOSE TO

Don't know what happened, the message was sent 3 times????????????

Anyway, was saying that ashrafieh is also close to solidere, in addition of course to hamra and ain mreisse/raouche area where you can find hotels overlooking the mediterranean sea.

Hope you'll enjoy your stay (ikama) in Lebanon.

As it is said above, it is a small place and most drives will take 10 to 15 minutes... so location is not that critical.

We have a special deal (from here in Jeddah - Saudi Arabia) where MEA (the Lebanese airlines) is selling a 7 night package in a 4 star hotel plus fights for the equivalent of US$ 640 to 750 per person sharing in a double room. Check if MEA is flying from where you live and if they are giving such an offer; it is well worth the price.
