Great Mosque by iwys
The Great Mosque was built on the site of the Crusader Cathedral of St. Mary of the Tower, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1170. The mosque was constructed by order of the Mameluke Sultan Khalil ben Kalawoon between 1294 and 1315 and is the oldest and largest Mameluke mosque in Lebanon. It dominates the skyline of the old city.
