The Beach House @ Ras Al Hadd: a great local experience
This is a really great place to stay right on the beach at Ras Al Hadd if you like simple, local, relaxed experiences. It is a traditional areesh (palm) hut situated right on the beach and has been made very comfortable inside with rugs and bedouin cushions.
There are 2 large rooms, a kitchen area with a gas stove, a bathroom with toilet and water tap. Lighting/electric sockets when you need them via a generator. The Omani guy who owns the place will take care of everything you need, and often will come and make a barbeque with you of fresh fish caught that day. He is very charming and a wonderful host - you will be very well looked after.
You can swim in the sea, right in front of the beach house, sometimes turtles come up onto the beach and sometimes fish come so close to the shore that you can just throw a line in from the beach and catch your own dinner. You can also ask the owner to take you fishing or snorkelling in his boat.
Highly recommend this place as a special, local alternative to the various hotels in the area.
No need for a swimming pool, just step outside and into the sea!
The best thing about this place is that you will most likely meet local people who are all great fun to hang out with and who will welcome you as an old friend.

Al Ashkharah: Oman best Youthhostel
First class service , more like a first class hotel than a youth hostel
Situated on the Arabian sea, this hostel, facing is the beach .
The food served was excellent, there is no local food store nearby!
To reach this hostel arriving from Muscat, on the way to Sur, you follow road 35 all the way to the sea and then some kilometers to the south.
The desert scenery before reaching the sea leaves great impression !

Beach Hut Camp: Turtle's Beach Resort
We went during what is considered to be winter, which basically means chilly nights and warm enough to go for a swim during the day...
Our hut had 3 single beds and 2 extra mattresses if we wishes to sleep in the floor, the huts are simple and pleasant. There are common toilets and showers although we saw some huts had their own and some even had A/C...
There is buffet breakfast and dinner and they are well varied, they also provide for lunch a la carte upon request.
They have entertainment facilities like a pool table and a dart board and there's a pretty common sitting area...
Please don't be glamoured by "resort" in the hotel name as it is a camp in the beach...
For us, it was PERFECT!!! We're planning to return...
The reception will assist if you want to book a visit to the Turtle's Reserve in Ras Al Jinz. When we were there, they weren't able to get through to them via phone, so they gave us a map and we went there ourselves to purchase the tickets. They were operating visits at 8:30pm and 4am, unfortunattely the 8:30pm visit was fully booked so we had to go there at 4am...
The Turtle Beach Resort is around 20km from the Ras Al Jinz Reserve... Ras Al Hadd is a very pretty fishing town also easily reachable from the Turtle Beach Resort...
