Al Ashkharah: Oman best Youthhostel
First class service , more like a first class hotel than a youth hostel
Situated on the Arabian sea, this hostel, facing is the beach .
The food served was excellent, there is no local food store nearby!
To reach this hostel arriving from Muscat, on the way to Sur, you follow road 35 all the way to the sea and then some kilometers to the south.
The desert scenery before reaching the sea leaves great impression !

Beach Hut Camp: Turtle's Beach Resort
We went during what is considered to be winter, which basically means chilly nights and warm enough to go for a swim during the day...
Our hut had 3 single beds and 2 extra mattresses if we wishes to sleep in the floor, the huts are simple and pleasant. There are common toilets and showers although we saw some huts had their own and some even had A/C...
There is buffet breakfast and dinner and they are well varied, they also provide for lunch a la carte upon request.
They have entertainment facilities like a pool table and a dart board and there's a pretty common sitting area...
Please don't be glamoured by "resort" in the hotel name as it is a camp in the beach...
For us, it was PERFECT!!! We're planning to return...
The reception will assist if you want to book a visit to the Turtle's Reserve in Ras Al Jinz. When we were there, they weren't able to get through to them via phone, so they gave us a map and we went there ourselves to purchase the tickets. They were operating visits at 8:30pm and 4am, unfortunattely the 8:30pm visit was fully booked so we had to go there at 4am...
The Turtle Beach Resort is around 20km from the Ras Al Jinz Reserve... Ras Al Hadd is a very pretty fishing town also easily reachable from the Turtle Beach Resort...

Ras al Hadd Beach Hotel: An authentic beach hotel
This two star hotel is situated on a very nice beach in Ras al Hadd. It offers medium sized rooms. Could need a stroke of paint or two but a decent option for a day or two. The hotel is a 20 minutes drive by car to the Ras al Jinz turtle beach (turtle watching at 8.30pm).
I'd rather stay in this hotel than the in the camp out in Jinz.
Good Indian food in the restaurant and a small breakfast buffet. Walk-in price in July was OMR35. This hotel has a sister-hotel in Sur called Sur Beach Hotel, but this one is better than the one in Sur.
