Budget Hotels In Muscat

by chevy51

Can anyone tell me if there are any nice budget hotels for backpackers/independent travelers? Or are there camping areas? I checked some of the hotels but they seemed really expensive, maybe that is just the going rate in Muscat. We will be there the end of Nov and only staying a few days. Thanks for the help.

Muscat is a superb place. have not been for a while now but sure there must be some suitable place to rest.
I just looked at Trip Advisor and saw the Top rated (from reviews) B&B called NOMAD GUEST HOUSE featured.

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g294007-d1453289-Reviews-Nomad_Guest_House-Muscat.html

I then looked at the reviews. There are 5 reviews posted between 6th June and 12th July this summer. Each review gives it Top Marks ! With 5 reviews and Top Marks no wonder it is in Number 1 position.
The reviewers come from all over the world ! And they have all given only one review on Trip Advisor - this place - and amazingly they all rate it as the best.
With those kind of reviews I wonder if they can all be genuine or indeed if any are really genuine.

Travel Tips for Muscat

ruwi

by call_me_rhia

The area called Ruwi is all about business and making money. There's not much to see there, except maybe a souk which we couldn't find, and a fort that can't be visited - Ruwi for us is the place where we went to eat one of the most memorable meals we've ever had. Ruwi proved to be a nice place for an evening post-dinner stroll - we found a lively square in the centre, with a clock tower all lit up. The clock tower, we later discovered, is a city's landmark. All around it, on the pavement, a "homely" scene: kids trying hard to hurt themselves while practicing skateboard figures...

Henna (Mehndi)

by peaceness98

Ladies can get their hands and feet decorated by Henna in most beauty salons for an average of 3 rials for hands, 5 for feet

Lots of newer designs decorate other parts of the body as a temporary tatoo

newer henna versions include the typical arabian red henna, sudanese black henna and even glitter nowadays

Camel Racing

by peaceness98

Ok, so chances are you will only be able to ride a camel for a quick snapshop- but camel racing is taken seriously in the Arabian Peninsula

Formal racers are normally little kids (who weigh less and hence the camel can move faster) trained to be professionals.

Well bred Camel's are commonly sold for up to millions of dollars to new proud owners. Take a camera with you for pics. Wear a turban in the pics on camels for fun

If you can't get to one..your next best bet is the Barka Friday Souq(market), where if you go early enough (and we're talking 6 am here), or afternoon (4'sh) , you can catch some rooster or bull fighting activities
These fights are not fun to watch...mainly two roosters or bulls are set against each other...the one who pushes the other furthest wins..lasts two split seconds.
