fish and the shortest road
by call_me_rhia
Quite some people (mostly ex-pats with their children) gather at dusk on the beach of shatti al qurm, and go watch the fishermen unlead their boat with their catch of the day. Those caught fish do not travel long distances before they are loaded again onto a jeep... because the jeep drives right into the water, where the boats arrive. All around... crying seagulls wanting to get their fair share. And many fish are left to them for supper. Small fish by Omani standards I guess... huge fish for swiss standard... oh to be a bird.
Diving in Oman
by chris1377
The Oman Dive Center is half an hour away from Muscat.
Diving in Oman is the relaxing way to dive. Here is no strong current. The visibility is sometimes very bad (less than 5m), normally it is 10m-20m. Nitrox is available, but not for free.
Fish market at the beach of the Seeb area
by victorwkf
At the Seeb suburb of Muscat near to the airport, every morning there are many fishing boats approaching the fish market at the beach where very fresh seafood is sold and then transported in-land to the various souqs. There are many of such fish markets along the coast of Oman, and the nearest one to Muscat must be this one located at Seeb. More information & photographs are at my VT Mintaqat Masqat page.
A MUST try!
by tamerinho about Kargeen Caffe'
Among the coolest and trendiest hangouts in Muscat.
It is an open air restaurant/Caffe', with a couple of medium sized indoors halls.
They have a very rich menu fll of varieties, from Kebabs, to Rice, to Pizza to extravganza Salads and juices.
The service is unique, and the waiter/waitresses are dressed in an old Arabic/Ottoman Turkish traditonal way.
Portions are quite big, and out door setting is really cool.
In addition to normal tables, they have what they call "Arabic sitting" which some sort of wooden benches covered with carpets.
They also offer excellent varities of Tea in addition to Shisha (water pipe for those who are interested) I tried so many dishes there, all are excellent.
Try also the Yemeni Tea (tea with cloves), very tasty.
Enjoy.
