Girlfriend wants to visit

by cebish01

Hi - could anyone please advise whether it is OK for my girlfriend to visit me, say for a couple of weeks as a tourist, if I am working as an expat in Muscat, and she is living elsewhere? And is it OK for her to stay at my appartment during that time - how about checking into hotels etc, would that present a problem? Thank you.

Hi
I can see no problem having your girlfriend visit as a tourist. We will be visiting Muscat in March. The living arrangements - I suggest that you make some enquiries locally. In some UAE countries an unmarried couple living together in a hotel might not be somewhat acceptable, but private accommodation is probably ok.

I see absolutely no problems with it since you are an expat. Oh, but are you Muslim? If not, no problem, they Omanis are very sympathetic and will not intrude on your personal life.

Travel Tips for Muscat

Catch of the day

by victorwkf

When at the fish souq (market) of the Mutrah area, you will see fishing boats bringing in fresh catch. In this photograph, I managed to capture people bring in fresh tuna fishes into the market. This whole place is really very traditional and an enriching experience for me.

Woman Traveller

by Rinjani

Oman is beautiful and nice to explore, but it’s not that easy for single woman who travel alone. A simple tips for a woman traveler who decide to travel alone, just bear in mind that Arabic men usually don’t deal a lot with women. Dress carefully when you walk around the town, don’t wear revealing clothes when you travel alone.

Another tips, some places that I’ve been are not really prepare for restroom for women. Either you need to use gent’s restroom or use a woman rest room which seems “untouched” for an ages. Just bring as many as wet tissue with you, that will be help.

Snorkling & Diving

by peaceness98

Oman has one of the few well hidden and undisturbed oceans in the world.
Bandar Al Jassa provides 5 great dive sites, with corals and plenty of different types of sea creatures such as cuttlefish and spiny lobster.
The water is shallow (15 mtrs), it is suitable for beginners and nite divers. There is a dive shop in the diving center in case you forget anything- but for specifics send them an email (below)

Meat section of the fish market

by victorwkf

Although it is called the fish souq (market) at the Mutrah Cornicle area, there is actually a meat section near the entrance of the souq which sells chicken, mutton etc. The stalls are lined up nicely and the owners are waiting outside for their customers.

Greatest place for a brunch

by tamerinho about D'Arcy's Kitchen

One of the coolest places in town, and located in the most elite area of Muscat.

They have an outdoor setting in addition to an inside hall.

D'Arcy's is the perfect place for a quick brunch, or even a relaxed meal. They have a very rich menu starting from snacks with cold cuts, pastas, burgers, and innovative dishes.

I tried many things and everything is really worth a try as they are extremly tasty.

It is open daily from 8:30 am till 11:00 pm but last order is 9:45 pm.

All the staff is Philippino, and they are very nice, just double check your bill when you are there on a crowded day/evening as sometimes involuntary miscalculations are done when giving you the bill. Try the Club Sandwich and the Dosso Dosso Italian sandwich.

Also try their fruit cocktails.
