What to see in Muscat and surroundings for one day?

by moets

I'm for one day (on a Friday) in Muscat. What do you recommend to see and visit in Muscat and surroundings by taxi?

Thanks

I agree with the above. If you still have some time and you appreciate museums, the Sultan's Armed Forces Museum is open to 6pm on Fridays.

Travel Tips for Muscat

VT meeting at Kargeen Cafe, Madinat Sultan Qaboos

by victorwkf

I met up with Mr Virgil Williams (VT member DesertRat) and his wife at the Kargeen Cafe at Madinat Sultan Qaboos suburb of Muscat on 15 Jan 2005. We had a wonderful time at this lovely restaurant, and the food was great too ! A big thank you to Virgil and his wife for meeting up with me, treated me to dinner as well as sending me back to the hotel.

The people of Oman

by georeiser

The inhabitants in Oman are mostly Arabs with some minorities of Pakistanis, Indians and Africans.

If you approach the locals in a decent way you will see how friendly they are. Smile and say hello, and you will receive a hello and a smile back. Some of the arab women will smile or giggle. The locals tolerate more from a westerner than the guest workers from India and Pakistan. But be wise and don't exploit this. Don't say hello to a woman if she is together with a man. And don't take photos without asking for it.

Running in Muscat

by georeiser

The sea front promonade along Al Bahri Road is a great place to run during the afternoon/sunset when it is not too hot. You can actually run all the way from the fish souq in Mutrah to Old Muscat. But it takes too long time, and it gets too dark so you miss all the sights on the way. I ran from Mutrah Souq to the enlightened water fountain, halfway to Old Muscat. And took a taxi back.

Qurum Beach

by victorwkf

Qurum Beach is a very beautiful beach located at the Qurum area of Muscat near to the Crowne Plaza Hotel. This is a public beach with clean and soft sand, palm trees, lovely waves of the Gulf of Oman and facilities such as barbeque pits, shelters, carparks etc. There is even a small river when you enter the beach area and it has lots of small fishes if you were to look down from the bridge. I would post some information and photographs of Qurum Beach at the my VT Mintaqat Masqat page soon, so do keep a lookout for the updates.

French restaurant in Mutrah

by georeiser about Restaurant la Brasserie

Restaurant la Brasserie is located in the left side of Mutrah Corniche. This is a cosy area in Muscat, even thought some reviews on the net writes the opposite and make fish smell from the fish souq to a big issue. It isn't! I had no problems with bad stench. And if you should be sensitive for bad stench, visit this restaurant in the week-ends or at nights.
