13 hour layover in Doha

by Me2744

Hello,

I have a 13-hour layover in Doha. I arrive at 6:30pm and depart at 8am. Would it be possible to get a taxi and drive around the city at night? I cannot find any night tours of the city. Any ideas?

Thank you.

hi there...

it depends on your nationality
whether you can get visa on arrival or not
otherwise it needs to be pre-arranged prior your departure.
Not so much to do at nite there but
at least you can go to shopping mall before its closed ;p
afterward you can go along to Doha's corniche by taxi and
take a picture there.

cheers,

Thank you for the reply. I will be able to get a visa at the airport in Doha.

How late will the mall be open?

I am thinking about getting a taxi for 30 minutes/1 hour to drive through downtown. I just want to look at the city. Would anyone know how much it can cost?

the shopping mall closed at 21.00hrs
and the nearest from airport is "the mall" 10 min drive only.
The souq is more interesting for evening time, its their traditonal
market. They have taxi meter there.

cheers,

Codes of Clothing Conduct

by shala_booo

Qatar is an islamic state and as a courtesy, visitors should dress modestly. Normal swimwears, including bikinis, is acceptable on the beach or by the pool, but t-shirts and discreet covering of the legs is desirable if you move away from these places. Topless sunbathing is not permitted.
Be particularly conscious of your dress code when visiting public places like the malls or parks or souq areas especially areas frequented by mixed nationalities. Women should avoid wearing spaghetti-strap or see-though blouses and short skirts.
It is considered particularly important to dress modestly during the Holy Fasting month of Ramadan.

Desert Safari

by Fedzo

With all this Desert around, it is nice to go an a Safari trip, where you can enjoy gliding over the sand dunes, have a dinner by the fire or even spend the night under the stars.
Many travel agencies organize safari trips for groups. The Package price can vary, depending on the number of people, what you will need and how long will you stay

Shopping in the souqs!

by ElCidRugger about The souqs

Doha has many different kinds of shops, but the souqs are the most enjoyable to shop at. There are different sections of the souq that specialize in certain goods. I always go to the gold souqs before going home so I can have nice presents for my friends. There are also pearl souqs for those who want a little piece of Arabia to take home with them. There are many different kinds of shops, so it is best to walk and explore. Gold, pearls, you name it! Always, always haggle. The price on the item is just a starting point for negotiations. Don't be rude about it, just be persuasive.

Qatar airways

by xaver

This has been my first time travelling with Qatar airways. To be honest, I have been a bit disappointed as, I heard so many excellent comments about it. Flights were all ok, but nothing more than standard. What instead impressed me was the small stick you can put on your seat asking to be awaked for meals or not to be disturbed, this is the first time I see something like that and I loved the idea.
