Booked myself in for a couple of days in early 2012 and was really statisfied. The big pro was the spacy room itself with a large, comfortable bed and a large bathroom – even with the lowest class of rooms which was the one I had. All the amenities you would expect (satellite TV, room service, laundry service, tea/coffee making facilities, etc.) are available and of good quality. The breakfast buffet caters to western needs, though bacon and sausages are pork free of course. Not the highest standard (some business travellers may even be disappointed), but better than what I personally expected.
The were only two small cons: I got room in the third floor which meant that it was located pretty low. At the height of my room, there was the minaret of a little mosque. That meant that my sleep was interrupted when the first ray of sun appeared. Of course you should expect that in a muslim country, but wit loudspeakers facing the lower floors of the hotel, it was a little too much for me. Second, the pool was close for refurbishment and would have been pretty small anyway. Other than that, an excellent hotel which you can get for a good price.
Beside the usual amenities mentioned, the hotel also offers a free shuttle from/to the airport which is just a couple of minutes away. The location in Al Salata is good for tourists as the Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum and Souk Waqik are all within walking distance. There are many small shops nearby for groceries as well as restaurants and local food stalls.
Directions: Close to the Museum of Islamic Art, within walking distance of Souq Waqif
