Doha Stopover

by dejavu2gb

I have an 8 hour stopover in Doha on the 20th of december, and was just trying to find out whether I will be able to have a bot of a nosy around the city to get out the airport. Would this be possible? Would I need a transit visa on a British Passport?
And if a transit is possible, how long is the journey into the city from the airport?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

You don't need a visa if you are a UK citizen, but if you have an Israeli stamp in your passport they won't let you in.
It's only a short taxi ride to the centre, no more than 10 minutes if I remember rightly.

Transit passengers can't exit the terminal, I'm afraid. Good luck!

Travel Tips for Doha

Don't offer to shack hands if you are a female

by divecat1978

It was first time meeting up my auditor in his office. Well, I had offer a hand shake but rejected by him because Islamic guys don't touch womens' hand unless they are husband and wife. I came from a Muslim country too, so I understand why he rejected my hand shake. It would be better to greet them by saying "Hello", "Good morning", "Good afternoon" or "Good evening".

4 Wheelin'!

If you get a chance to get on ATV's during your stay in Qatar it is highly worth it! It was my first time ever doing this sort of sport but it was fantastic. The machines are great in the dunes and damp sand and can handle almost anything. It is quite a different way to travel on the dunes. You could always go in a 4x4 or something too if you woud like. We did this at the Sealine Beach Resort. They have quite a few bikes and were very helpful even when one of our companions got stuck. You must be 16 and a valid driver's license will be taken during your time for information sake. We paid 150QR each for 1 hour of riding time.

Gulf Beaches

by bpwillet

Sealine Beach resort offers a clean and nice beach to visit, even if you are not a guest at the resort. Swimming is at your own risk, and mind the strong currents. The water is nice and at certain seasons there may be jellyfish.

Bringing Latin Flavlour to little Doha

by Fedzo about Habanos

As the Name shows, welcome to Salsa land.
A chique lounge bar with Cigar displayed and a portrait of Castro on the wall.
still a bit incognito, which is a good thing, offering a wide variety of latin cocktails.
The greatest thing about the place is the Colombian band, playing all kind of latin music and lots of Salsa. too bad it doesn't have a dance floor.
Try the Mojito.. Delicious ! Casual

Heading to the desert..

by bpwillet

If you are travelling outside of the cities and woudl like to trek across the desert a 4x4 vehicle is absolutely necessary. You can drive it yourself or take a tour from any number of tour agencies in big name hotels or even smaller resorts. Or if you have the time you can always use personal ATV's if they are available. Some places will rent them to you at an hourly rate.
