The Ramada is a beautiful building that seems to have been well kept and updated. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. There is a wide range of restaurants inside the building, as well as, a large number of bars. If you are stuck in Doha, you couldn't ask for anything better.
Unique Quality: The best thing is the internet is free. Other hotels in the Middle East get large fees when you use their internet. it was a surprise to get it free.
The number of bars and restaurants was a surprise, as well.
Stayed here for over 3 weeks on a business trip to Doha. Took an Executuve Room and paid for the upgrade. I was satisfied with my room and service. You get breakfast and hot and cold snacks at lunch and dinner in the executive lounges on the 4th and 7th floors. There is beer, wine and hard liquor in the lounge along with the snacks. There is also a PC available in both lounges and I rarely had to wait to get on. The rooms were large with comfortable beds, The baths are nice with large soaking tubs and a separate rain type shower. You get a full amenities kit everyday which came in handy as the razors I took were cutting me to ribbons until I started using the ones provided by the hotel. The hotel is near a strip mall with a good grocery store, baskin robbins, laundry, pharmacy. From my room I could see about 8 fast food and sit down food chains at Ramada corner. Arbys, Dairy Qyueen, Chilies, Coffee bean, KFC, and Pizza Hut are all there (and more). The staff is very helpful and the rooms are sparkling.
Unique Quality: Within easy walking distance for every international food chain imaginable. The hotel also has very good cable TV. Many English language entertainment choices offered.
Had to stay there for a month in early 2003 and many times since then for years. The hotel is OK, clean from the inside, good room service, but has weird colors in the room (orange curtains and green sheets!). Overall wasn't very impressive although they claim to be a 5 star hotel. They underwent a major renovation in 2004 which consisted of a new lobby and some changes in the rooms, but they forgot the sun-eaten gold plating that covers all the windows of the hotel from the outside! When you're inside, it's hard to see out because of that worn-out golden film they have sticking to all windows.
You get what you pay for actually, it's not a very expensive hotel overall. Its best quality is that it is the ONLY hotel right across the street from the best restaurant and cafe area of the city. You're a walk away from the best hangout, so it's worth a shot!
Unique Quality: The hotel hosts an excellent Italian restaurant "The Italian Job", and the best Indian food in town, the high quality (and expensive) "Shingari" restaurant. They have an upbeat modern bar on the roof called "The Library" that has a fun live band and a good relaxed atmosphere. Nice swimming pool, good gym, and they've just opened the best nightclub in town, the "Pearl Lounge" which is the hottest night spot in Doha on Thursday and Friday nights.
A caveat before I get started here: I've never spent the night at this place. I have visited and I have talked to other people who have spent the night here and I got the gist that they were satisfied, but they expected more for their money. Ramada usually has high standards, though, so I can't imagine that they would suffer poor quality for long. I always stay at the Moevenpick, so I'll have to do a night at the Ramada to give you guys an accurate rating.
