Glamorous but it Begins to Show its Age!
Due to the Eid Al Adha holidays the hotel was overbooked so we decided to book somewhere else and luckily we never regretted it.
We had however the opportunity to dine here that special day of the Halloween and this is mostly what I am supposed to write on my review. As a Guide Writer and a person who cares about travellers I decided to go further and comment in general on the hotel.
Upon arrival you come across the usual parade of White Range Rovers (the local’s favourite) and those Bentleys attest to the wealth of the guests. The lobby and entrance are huge and impressive as we expected it but I have seen many others much more impressive I can admit. The majority of times these huge in size places lose the personal touch. It seems that it is the locals’ favourite spot and the lobby is full of them but you don’t dare take a picture in case somebody is disturbed.
You find many locals at the coffee lobby and it is hard to think that they discuss anything else other than business or the next deal.
Well the Ritz-Carlton might not be the newest hotel in Doha but I am sure those days when it opened it was truly THE # 1, glamorous and outstanding hotel in Doha. As a Carlton it does combine extravagant elegance and warmth of a traditional Arabian welcome but it begins to show its age.
The Carlton of Doha is situated on its own exclusive island resort but it is quite away from the City centre. Have in mind that there is limited taxi service in Qatar in general since almost everyone owns a car. Taxis can get costly and you have to give appointments hours before. Of course there is always the hotel’s limo and that won’t be a problem if you are that wealthy. The Pearl is the closest getaway for a day out for some shopping.
It is not a hotel that is popular for its beach like others. It has a rocky coast instead but there is always the beautiful garden with the pools.
It seems to be a professionally run hotel but comments from guests are not always what you expect to read out of a hotel of such fame.
I asked to see one or two rooms to get a rough idea of what we missed. For the director of public relations nothing was much trouble and she pleasantly showed me a few.
The rooms décor is extremely classic and ….too much!
I would certainly not call it chic. There are too much colourful and not matching between them pieces of furniture especially in the suites. Light is dim in the rooms, marble bathrooms like in many other hotels while toiletries are the Bvlgary collection but honestly I cannot say I was impressed especially when we walked along the corridors to get from one room to the other.
5 Star service and hospitality
I can only say that the stay in Ritz carlton has been wonderful experience ...bravo to all the staff especially those at the 23rd Floor lounge...their smiles, friendliness, professionalism and hospitality is beyond expectation ...
Compared to some other 5 Stars hotels around the world ..the service in Ritz Carlton, Doha clearly stands out as a class of its own...so bravo to the staff and management and hope you guys can keep up the good work...
The gym and spa facilities are of high quality and adequate for all hotel guest...I am very particular when it comes to the size of the gym ...but the one in Ritz is very spacious and the equipments are fairly new ( or at least it looks new lol )
And ya ...not forgeting the yummy and beautiful French cuisine served by La Mer the French restaurant and delicious Italian food served by Porcini ...( equally good compared to the Italian restaurant in Grand Hyatt Muscat that I like )
Though its a little far from the town , I guess the good point is that you are far from all the constructions and cranes.....
And of course there are too many names to mention ....just want to say thank you to all the Staff esp those in 23rd floor for taking care of me and my colleagues for 2 wonderful weeks...
Unique Quality: 1) Wonderful staff
2) Excellent facilities like Gym , Spa, Jacuzzi etc
3) Great Restaurants
Directions: Out of the City Centre which is like a Contruction site
One of the best hotels in Doha
The Ritz Carlton is a wonderful resort hotel in Doha. One of the best with the Four Seasons.
The lobby is stunning, as well as the rooms, which are confortable, oversized and well decorated. Each detail is according to the Ritz Carlton Style. Staff attitude is of course lovely.
The pool area is really nice, and there is also a private marina. The hotel has its own private beach but it was not that impressive and there was nobody going there, maybe because it was too hot and it was much nicer sunbathing by the huge pool. The hotel has several food outlet.
Unique Quality: Of course this is a Ritz Carlton, which means quality and luxury. You get what you pay for...
I was little disappointed about the beach, which was not so nice. The pool area was outstanding.
I know that the Ritz Carlton company is now building one more Ritz Carlton Resort there... Let's see!
I prefer the Ritz Carlton in Dubai rather than the one in Doha after all.
Luxury Resort Hotel
As one of the best hotels in Doha (along with the Four Seasons), the Ritz Carlton is a most pleasant place to stay offering top amenities. Aside from the expected five star service and luxury, the hotels is home to perhaps one of the best spas/fitness centres in the world. Equipped with two indoor tennis courts, two pools (indoor and outdoor), squash courts, gym, Roman bath, and a luxury spa, the Ritz Carlton spa is hard to top! Aside from the spa, the hotel has three excellent restaurants, a bar and two great cafés. You will not want to leave the hotel... These luxuries come naturally with a hefty price. Another disadvantage is that the hotel is relatively distant from the "attractions" of Doha.
Directions: 10 minutes North of Doha
Must be considered as one of the better 5* hotels
We got an update to a suite through our Belgian friend who was very well known by the manager of the hotel. One of the staff members brought us to the room but when he opened the door, there was a party going on in the room!!!. Then we went to another suite but the smell of perfume inside that room was unbearable, so we decided to take a lower class room in which we felt much more comfortable.
Doha is fast growing and a lot of hotels (including the R.C.) are best suited to business travellers and to a great deal of expacts, rather than to tourists.
The hotel confirmed us by e-mail there was a beach, but the so called beach was a small strech of sand. It's not the place to be for families with children.
The staff was friendly but not very helpfull, because the lack of training.
All in all, the hotel was new and nice but what it realy lacked was atmosphere and character. If you want to go to the Middle East for a wonderfull holiday in a fantastic hotel (and even cheaper) give Doha a miss and go to Dubai or Oman.
Unique Quality: The garden with several pools was very beautifull. There was a splendid marina next to the hotel but I never saw more than ten boats, what means that watersport is practically nihil.
There are four/five restaurants, Porcini is a very good Italian restaurant with good service.
Directions: Doha is not that big, so everyone can show you the way.
Feels like in Paradise
This hotel has a lot to offer: sauna, spa, gym, swimming pools, tennis courts and restaurants. One cannot be bored here!
More about Ritz-Carlton Doha
Best Hotel in Qatar
The hotel is very luxurios, and it's not a cheap hotel, but the service is great!! The resturants on the hotel is very expensive and it's recommendable to eat on one of the other good and cheaper resturants in Doha. The hotel is situated on its own island resort, just outside the city, overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Arabian Gulf. It's hard to get to the city if you dont have a car or wont to take one of the limousine cars, as there is no normal taxis at the hotel. All rooms have sea or golf course view.
A selection of nine restaurants and bars offering fine local and international cuisine.
A world-class Spa and modern fitness center.
Indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
Two ballrooms, six meeting rooms, a videoconferencing room and a fully equipped business center.
235 slip marina with club house.
The least expensive Ritz you will ever stay at...
What can I say...great 5*+ hotel for the price of a motel in most countires.
