I stayed there for over two weeks in March 2010 for a major conference that we were organizing. Based on other reviews that I read on VT, I guess this hotel has been totally renovated as I didn't feel it's outdated and stinky at all. The facilities are new, elegant and even luxury. The atrium is breathtaking. This is the only hotel I've stayed in that provided two flat screen TVs in the room. The very spacious toilet is marbled all around (wall, floor and bath tub). The service was good too. Its great open air space with swimming pool and garden is definitely a plus. My only complaint is about the bed. It's way too soft and too high. But apparently they are pretty proud of this as I saw a note on the bedside table bragging about the comfort it offers. Not for me.
The convention centre is part of the complex. They offer first class facilities too.
Unique Quality: It's very spacious (the rooms and the fantastic atrium) and elegant. It offers a great sea view too.
It's not far from the City Centre which is a gigantic shopping mall with many shops and the French super market Carrefour. There are many restaurants there too.
Directions: At almost the end of the western bay area. You won't miss. It's a landmark.
We stayed there in 2003, it was an outdated hotel with look and smell of 70s.
I'm not sure whether it was renovated since then, but that experience was not really pleasant.
Another strange thing was a long step dividing our room from wall to wall.
Covered with dark red carpet it was almost invisible and so pretty dangerous.
Directions: Doha Corniche, West Bay
I never actually spent the night here, but I visited a few times and had some time to enjoy the pool and resort area......
Unique Quality: The pyramid shape of the Sheraton hotel was one of the first prominent buildings of the Doha skyline. It is modeled after an ancient Mesopotamian Ziggurat, and is a great local landmark.
Directions: Located along the Corniche, on the water.
Unique Quality: While I didn not have the opportunity to stay at the Sheraton while I was in Qatar, I did visit it on occasion. It is an ideal setting for any buisness traveller conducting buisness in the city as it is full of anything you could ask for. It stands out on the Doha skyline as a very unique "pyramid" shaped building. The interior is spacious and unique. The facilities can be used by non-residents and the staff is exceptionally helpful. There are a number of cafe's and restaurants to choose from as well as a few gift shops.
Directions: Diplomatic District, at the end of the Corniche along the bay.
