najaco compound by TomorrowsAngel In KSA, westerners live in walled-off compunds, completely shut off from Saudi society. Main reasons for this: security of westerners with past/current anti-westerner sentiment; and so they are able to offer as western an environment as possible, especially for women.
Some compounds have Arabs living on them as. While some hospital compounds combine Westerner/Arab/Saudi nationals, and therefore rules can be slightly more strict, for example, women may be prohibited from wearing bikinis, shorts, singlets etc. Most employees find that their place of employment will include accommodation as part of their contract. According to Saudi law - unaccompanied women must live in a compound. Single/unaccompanied men may live in apartments etc. Theme: OtherPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: all over Saudi Arabia

I lived in a compound called Rose Village that is in the outskirts of Jeddah (of Medina Road to the north of Jeddah City). There is some freedome within the compound, you can where whatever you want. BTW if you leave the compund and are not wearing pants (not shorts) then you are getting yourself into trouble. Learn how to dress off the heat. I stayed in the Sheraton Hotel in Medina. Nice enough, but Medina is a holy city and muslim only, so you are restricted to the hotel grounds. Although I would have liked to take a stroll into Medina and take a look at the old buildings. You will have to learn how to deal with the hotel staff there. The only thing to do in Medina is to play pool (if you can get the staff to get you some cues, chalk and some balls). You'll understand what I mean if you ever get the privledge to stay there overnight.
The only outstanding qualities is the pool hall (one table and broken cues). A haven for all foreigners staying in Medina. Theme: OtherDirections: Rose Village, of Medina Road, North of Jeddah. Sheraton Hotel, Medina. If you are NON-Muslim. It will be the only place you can stay.
