hotel reservation without travel agency?

by sojourner27

salam alekum,
I'm going to umrah for 4 days inshAllah next week. I wanted to know if i can make my own hotel reservations or do i have to go through a travel agency and get a package for hotel/transportation etc? Do the Saudi immigration officials ask for the reservation details at Jeddah airport before they let you in? Also what is a reasonable cab fare betwen Makkah-Medinah and Makakh-Jeddah?
Jazak-Allah o khair

You'll be arriving on "umrah visa" and the immigration officers in KSA deals with umrah visitors on a daily basis. Lots of umrah visitors from out of the gulf area have those tailored package inclusive of accommodation and transport, but if you have the right visa and docs you won't be having any problem.

If you have not availed of the umrah package in your country, there are a lot of hotels around the masjid al haram and it would not be difficult. Expect to pay between 25 - 50 US$ for a decent bed, there are cheaper options if you're not really picky. Or you could stay in the commercial city of Jeddah and take a transport to Makkah, it's about 45 minutes by bus (fare is I think 10 saudi riyals one way, about 2.7 us$) - other options are: shared taxi - you share it with other umrah visitors and costs also SR10, or you can take the whole taxi for yourself and costs SR50 1-way. The bus station (called (SAPTCO) is located at the downtown Balad at the back of the Post Office, from the airport taxi will cost you SR50 to reach the downtown.

From Makkah to Madina, solo-passenger taxi will cost you much, so take a bus or shared transport and will be around SR50 only.

Have a safe umrah trip!

PHOTO : VISA FOR HAJJI....

This is visa for Hajji....issued by Embassy of Royal Saudi of Arabia. They issue a special passport, good for one way...just doing a Hajji only not for other purpose. By doing this method
the Saudi Government able to control visitors during the peak season in Mecca & Madinah....for the ordinary Muslim traveller not for Hajji...checking will be done regularly, normaly their 'Tour visa' will be expired before Hajji's Season. Saudi's Jail are really unpleasent according from one of source. So, becareful, don't get caught !!

Mountain Homes

by Muarrij

If you wander out towards the suburbs you will come across great excavations, holes and digs where bulldozers and other mechanics have cut out mountains like paper.
Thus exposing the inner of this arrid mountainous land.

In the picture you can see how the mountain has been cut, whilst on one side people have their homes dug deep into the mountain side.

Zam Zam (Holy Water from Heaven )

by kenari

Historically Ibrahim was ordered to leave his wife Hajirah (may Allah be please with her) and child Ishmael in a valley without any vegetation or water at the site of his sacred house before the building of the Kabah promising to provide for them. As Ishmael cried in thirst Hadhrath-e-Hajirah ran from a small rise to another (safa and marwah) in the hope that a mirage of water was real. Allah then broke forth a spring at the feet of the crying baby now know as the well of Zamzam. ZamZam well is located few meters east of Kaaba under the Tawaf area, the well is 35 meters deep and topped by an elegant dome. Many prophetic traditions (Hadeeths) referred to the superiority of Zamzam water, such as:
“The best water on the earth is Zamzam".

“It is blessed, for drinking and for curing".

"It is a cure for what it is drunk for".

It is told that Abdullah Bin Abbas, when drinking from Zamzam, used to say,

"O Allah, I ask you a useful knowledge, a Luxurious living, and a cure for all diseases
