Definitely you'll be landing in Jeddah. The bus depot for Makkah is in the downtown (Ballad District) few meters from the Cornische commercial center along the main road, all taxis knows that.

Taxi from Jeddah's airport (either Saudia terminal or the foreign airlines terminal in the north) would cost you SR50, some taxis would ask you more but bargain and the most should be SR50 ($13).

From Jeddah to Makkah, one-way transport would be about SR15, Jeddah to Madinah would be about SR50. The government bus SAPTCO have comfortable A/C buses, and normally they give 25% discount on return (2-way) tickets.

There are so much hotels to choose from in Jeddah, Makkah & Madinah even near the bus station - depends on your budget. In Makkah, there're too much cheap hotels around haram, don't worry you'll never run out of place to stay, it's no longer the peak season.

Travel Tips for Mecca

Masjid-Al-Haraam

by fkompani

Masjid-Al-Haraam is the first place to go Sitting in Masjedolharaam, I was looking at those who where praying. Some were walking around Ka'be some were saying their prayers some were just sitting there and children were running and playing. Different races of people white & black doing the same thing, together in peace. It looked to me like a big house, my house and theirs. A place where everyone can experience peace and happiness, can feel being in love and be loved, a real love, and that was amasing.

Stoning the devil- jamrat

by uglyscot

Pilgrims have to stone the devil [ 3 stone pillars] after they return from Arafat to Mina. this is done three times on the day of the Eid and the following days. Stones are thrown individually , though some ignorant people throw handfuls of stones.
This is the most dangerous part of the hajj, as people can be injured by the stones, or as when we were there by stampedes when confusion over the entrance and exit occurred, when over 300 people died.

King Fahd's Palace

by Muarrij

Its really a shame to see this monstrosity of a Palace overshadowing the beautiful harem.

What's is even more sad is that the custodians knocked down an historic and great mosque. The mosque of Bilal, used to rest at the top of this once humble hill.

They knocked down the mosque after the initial Palace was built due to security reasons.

Notice also that the gate of Masjid al-Haram facing the palace has only one minaret , instead of the usual two. This is because it was blocking the King's view of the Kaabah from his bedroom.

If you are caught taking pictures in Makkah its quite serious offence, but if you get caught taking pictures of the Palace dont be surprised if you end up in big trouble.

Always carry your passport with you. Try to carry the number of your consulate/embassy of your origin in the locality you are in too!

Here is a picture of Makka`s grand mosque by Hajj time...
It was taken with my mobile cam..we had left Mina to Jeddah and came back later after couple of days to do the farewell Tawaf(Tawaf is when we circle the Kaaba seven times)or in Arabic it`s called Tawaf Al Wadda.
