in Mecca

Jazak Allah Br Fayez. You have provided very useful and helpful information.
The biggest challenge remains finding a decent hotel with reasonable price. We are not looking for a 5-star hotel but a decent place where we can sleep, otherwise most of the time will be spent in Haram inshallah. We have a place to stay for one day when we get there and then we are hoping to find a decent place nearby inshallah. Allah Kareem.
Feel free to add more suggestions. Thank you.

Rush for the prayers
by marimar_72
Here is a picture showing people going for the Asr prayers(afternoon).
As I was crossing the street to get to the holy mosque I noticed a group of 6 children with their tutor (maybe father)rushing to the mosque,,their ages were about from 5 to 10 years old, they looked so cute,,I just wished I could have snaped a shot of them,,but I also had to watch for the traffic ;-)
Most mosques in Makkah and Jeddah have learning session of the Noble Quran after the Asr prayers for the young men mostly. Watching the young ones praying, and sometimes falling asleep while kneeling down.
Psst,,see that lady in the black,,that`s my mom holding the hand of my daughter ;-)

If only I could have snaped more shots of the inside of the Holy Mosque you would have been amazed.but anyways,,this door (located outside the holy mosque)leads to the escalators to the second floor of the mosque.
One of many other escalators.
I took this picture before going inside the Haram.
Kiss Hajre Aswat . "the black stone"
by Qamr
In many instances , people dont even get close to doing this.
If its crowded , go early for Asar, about an hour or so.
U will see a line start forming , join the line. before Asar , the guards will only allow those ppl in the line to kiss the black stone.
It works so well
The House where Muhammmed was born
by Digi
The house where the Prophet Muhammed was born still stands today in Mecca. It is easy to find. It is located near the market on the North side of the mosque. While it is a building of remarkable historic significance it stands neglected. The sign on the outside indicated that it was now a library of somekind, and I read some grafiti on the outside of peoples names, including a Pakistani army officer, which was strange.
