hi there,
i am from Riyadh and I read ur question. I dont know much about real estates but I am pretty sure its not possible that you would be able to get a villa for 25000SR annual, and if it happens that you find one, it would be an old one.

Travel Tips for Riyadh

Shopping on weekends

by humayun72

Saudi weekend begins on Wednesday afternoon. Shopping malls announce their new promotions to coincide with weekend and all the malls are overcrowded. So, unless you are hunting for a bargain on some favorite item, don't go shopping on Wednesday evening. Thursday morning is always a better option.

General Tips

by kalaika

Not quite a favourite but...before you travel:
If you do not already belong to a “Frequent Flyer” scheme, it is advisable to join now. Flights to Saudi have been known to be double booked & passengers removed. Those holding FF cards are given preference.

King Khalid Int'l Airport is quite big & modern, you will always land at a pier & not have to suffer the heat until you are outside arrivals. There is no duty-free area in the arrivals hall of the airport (that said, there isn't even one in departures!). Proceed to the lower level, immigration. Everyone is treated with suspicion, however western expats tend to receive a little more courtesy. You should present your passport & landing card you filled out before landing to the officer here. You will need to know the name & address of your sponsor. Single females have a separate counter & visiting wives may be dragged out to the arrivals hall to fetch their husband to take over immigration proceedings! Onto baggage claim, one word of warning here: “Fragile” seems to be Hindi/Urdu for “throw heavily onto the conveyor” so try to carry your breakables with you. Your bags may then be searched, which sometimes involves putting your bags through an x-ray machine, or a thorough item-by-item search. They will be looking for alcohol, drugs, pork products, porn and any pirated software/videos etc. From here it is out into the arrivals hall where someone should be waiting for you. If you are doing your own thing, turn left & proceed to the domestic terminal, (about a kilo walk!) here you will find the car rental desks, if you are so brave. There are the ubiquitous Airport taxi drivers who will hassle you as soon as the customs doors open "Taxi Sir/Ma'am?" but keep in mind, as are all things in KSA, fair is negotiable - aim as close to 50SR but no more than 75SR.

Riyadh Tip

Since there are a lots of Questionior and Inquaries regards on Women in Islam by my esteem members here. So, I take this oppotunities try to use this small page to elaborate that topic. Hopefully it's helping my non Muslim members.

THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE ISLAMIC SOCIETY.

THE position of WOMEN in Islamic Society in general is complex and frequently misunderstood issue.

It is certainly true that Muslim and Western views of the role of women shown sharp cultural differances. The holly Qur'an gave women economic and social rights long before such rights were attained by Western women. From the beginning of Islam, women have been LEGALLY ENTITLED to inherit and bequeath properties, holding their wealth in their own names EVEN after MARRIAGE, without OBLIGATION to CONTRIBUTE that wealth to their husband or their family.

UNDER Islam, a woman is enjoined to behave modestly in public and as in the West untill recently, is generally expected to give a full commitment to making a family home.... a home within which, incidentally, she enjoys a pre eminent role.

IT would be a mistake to think that the role of Women in Islam society is confined at home. The development of Islamic society has brought with it increasing opportunities for women in both Education and Employment.

Plan your shopping out of prayer time

by anees

Saudi Arabian shops closes two times during after noon and evening hours, Magrab and Esha prayers.
I recommend that you plan your shopping either before Magrab pray time (sunset time) or after Esha Prayer (In summer time after 8:30 pm).
Some restaurants and large shops are allowing shoppers to remain inside their place while they close their doors for prayer time, so if you plan to eat out and committed to meet people just 10 minutes before prayers time for dinner, so you better be in hurry and get in the resaturant and make your order before the pray time, so you can enjoy your food while its close.
Ikea furniture store is allowing its shoppers to remain inside, and its large enough to tour it, and it has its praying place to who want to practice his religion.
There are possiblity to have other closing time such as Dhoher for banks, and Aser if you want to fill your car with fuel. Its rare that you have to wait for Fajer prayer unless you are going to one of these coffee shops that remain open till morning.

Brians Mum

by neilward

When you see the local arab women in their traditional dress, they wear make up around their eyes,as thats the only visible feature. They're very good at that, but try not to stare as it tends to be frowned upon.

I don't mean to be rude but wherever I looked I seemed to be in audition for the role of Brians mum in "The LIfe of Brian"
