LARGE, OLD BUT NICE HOTEL

Its the largest hotel in town. The building located in very central area in older town.
The building sytle back to 70's era where concrete was the clearly use in the design.
The hotel famous of being attached to the oldest function hall in town, King Faisal Hall where lot of official conferences held in past three decades.
The hotel has gold course, big car parketings, and big lobby.

Unique Quality: Centrally located but its far from shopping and restaurant area. The building is old compared to the newly built hotels

Great Riyadh Hotel

Great hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There are all kinds of great shops on the ground floor along with some fantastic restuarants. They even have a 18 hole golf club out in the back.

Unique Quality: The Intercon had a great outdoor pool area but with keeping with arab tradition, no women were allowed. Their pool was indoors in a seperate building.

One of the best hotels in riyadh

Service and the facilities are very nice, and its almost in the city center .... and I think the area covered by the hotel is also quite huge, as they have 9 holes golf course inside the hotel compound, except for other sports facilities which are also very nice.

Unique Quality: Nice Pool, 3 tennis and squash courts each a nice gym also .... as I mentioned above a very nice green 9 holes golf course.

THE INTERCONTINENTAL OR...

THE INTERCONTINENTAL OR MARRIOTT HOTELS. MOST WESTERNERS WHO WORK AND LIVE IN RIYADH LIVE IN WESTERN STYLE COMPOUNDS WHICH MEANS THAT THEY ARE SEGRAGATED FROM THE GENERAL POPULATION
PRICES ARE MATCHED TO WORLD STANDARD PRICES FOR ROOMS AND RELATED TO THE STAR RATING

Unique Quality: THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THESE HOTELS IS THAT THEY CANNOT SERVE ALCOHOL AS IT IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED IN THE KINGDOM. HOWEVER THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF EXCELLENT RESTAURANTS WITHIN THE HOTEL COMPLEX WITH THE CHOICE OF WESTERN OR ARABIC QUISINE

Hotel - Riyadh

by zuhur about Intercontinental Riyadh

Very comfortable hotel. I really liked the fact that there was separate small office area in the room - set up for modem and fax; and there's a 24 hour business office.

Nice restaurant (good Lebanese-style food) and also a coffee area where one can meet with people and have fairly private conversations. The only downside - has to do with the restrictions on women - there is a pool, and exercise room - but when I visited, no women were allowed to use them, so I can't comment. There is also a golf course - and the card in my room read that ladies were not welcome, sorry; but someone told me that she had used the facility.

My suggestion to the hotel would be to set up
at least a small exercise room for women-only.

Only other quibble was that it was very busy in the evening and took a bit of time to check out.

Hotel is rated 4 star - not sure what the normal rate is; quite affordable for me - thanks to all.

As we all know this country is a very conservative one...not unless male Vt member would want to have a Vt meet and that would be fine but for us female Vt members residing here in RIyadh..it is impossible to arrange a vt meet and the venue is a public place like a cafe (as you suggested)

Maybe...other vt members would gladly arrange it in their homes ;-) (which i think another impossible thing to happen)

Ok. Let me tell u
In another international online travel community called (couchserfing.com)
We have found a good solution for gathering males and females in meeting in public places in Riyadh..Which is the hotel lobbies and restaurants
and we already have organized a meeting in at the second lobby, Intercontinental Hotel, Riyadh, tomorrow 2nd of December at 7 pm ..Please check the links:

Have you tried Riyadh Gulf Club, Spazio, or the Globe?! You can set there relaxed and have fun, with great surroundings!
