  • Dar Zamaria courtyard restaurant - Aleppo
    Dar Zamaria courtyard

Tucked behind a high stone wall in the Jdaida quarter of Aleppo, the Dar Zamaria is a lovingly restored old house that now serves as one of the city's charming small hotels. With comfortable and well-equipped rooms; courteous and very helpful staff (our very late arrival was no problem and they were particularly helpful with my companion who had recently had knee surgery); delicious breakfasts and excellent dinners served in the courtyard restaurant, this is a hotel I would certainly stay at again.

The rooftop terrace (open in Summer) has a great view of the Citadel.

  • Tranquil courtyard at the Beit Wakil - Aleppo
    Tranquil courtyard at the
    Beit Wakil

Staying at the Beit Wakil is a unique experience. Set in a narrow alley in the Jdeida quarter, you will find yourself far removed from the hustle and bustle of Aleppo's busy streets. Although you will have to walk a little way from where you have left your car or taxi, you will be warmly welcomed, find the service to be efficient and unobtrusive, and count your stay here as one of the highlights of your visit to Syria.

Faithfully and authentically restored, the Beit Wakil was the first of Aleppo's grand houses to be converted to a boutique hotel. Others have followed, but the Beit Wakil is still the one that best captures the feel of old Aleppo. The simply furnished rooms are set around a beautiful courtyard garden. There's an excellent restaurant in a beautiful covered courtyard, a little cellar bar and a small gift shop. leyle

    Ramsis Hotel: Ramsis Hotel

  • The hotel is situated in Baron street in the city center of Aleppo. Ramsis Hotel is a three-star, deluxe, luxurious, modern hotel. The hotel was completely renovated under the same management in 2002 and it was re-opened in January 2003.

The hotel is accommodated a comfortable and well-furnished 28 rooms and 8 suites, a street side cafeteria (Down Town Caf?), an oriental gift shop, a convenient store, a bookshop, a news-stand and Internet facility.

Baron Hotel: Antique Character at its Best
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Built in 1909 to service the needs of Europeans heading for the Holy Land, including such celebrities as Lawrence of Arabia (whose unpaid bill remains in the lobby), Theodore Roosevelt, Agatha Christie, and Charles Lindbergh, the Baron remains as it was with antique plumbing, squeeky beds, and sticky hardwood drawers. But, the charm of the setting is worth the price, and frankly it's not over-priced. Most of the 40 rooms are up a central grand staircase and with a basic rectangular series of rooms along the perimeter walls and in the center. We had a modest room with a view to a side street. Downstairs, the lobby and bar are filled with antique furniture, and after dark expatriates that live in the area like to stand around the bar or lounge in the leather upholstered chairs to swap travel adventure stories. Breakfast is included in the price. The hotel is centrally located such that the best tourist haunts are within easy walking distance. It's easy to arrange joint excursions with others staying in the hotel as the desk clerks are adept at finding vans and drivers, as well as taxis.

If I were on a student budget, or planning to stay for more than a few days, I'd probably choose another place to stay, but the character of this hotel, both the building and service, makes this a must stay place for Allepo in my book. There are other hotels in the area, so if you come without a reservation, you can find lodging nearby without a problem.

Spring Flower Hostel: backpackers and others
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Spring Flower, Zahert Al-Rabih in arabic. I payed 300 SP (6 USD approx.) for double room with bathroom, where I stayed alone. it's a nice place in old house. it's clean, I had good heating in the room (in December). area, where the hostel is situated is called Al Faraj. my friend gave me the address of the hostel. Also, he told me that there is some other "Spring Flower" in the same area and that this one is better and that I have to look for the Usama Akkad's "Spring Flower". I mean that the name of the owner of the hostel is Usama Akkad :) well, maybe this information will help you to find the place and not to mix it with another hostel with the same name. anyway, the place is good. ppl there are helpful. internet there is avalable for 100 SP per hour (which is actually bit expensive.. but still..) the place is near to Aleppo National Museum (few steps only) and also you near to Citadel of Aleppo (10-15 minutes walk or something).. also it's near to Karnak Station.

    not shared bathroom!

    Al - Gawaher
  • Tip Rating:
  • When I visited Aleppo in 2005 I stayed at Hotel Al - Gawaher, which is situated close to the clock tower (Bab Al-Faraj). It is a nice place. I wanted to have a single room with bathroom, but none were available so I got a doubble without bath, but with a balkony. The room had a fan and a zink for brushing the teeth etc. The bathroom was just outside and it seemed I was just sharing it with one other person (whom I never saw). I paid 400 SP for the room.

    Diwan Rasmy Hotel: Aleppine charm
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Converted from two 15th Century houses, the Diwan Rasmy is a cool and elegant oasis of calm right in the heart of Aleppo. Just five minutes walk from the Citadel, down twisting alleyways, it is very central, but also quiet and very peaceful. All rooms are air-conditioned, with en-suite bathrooms and all the amenities you would expect to find in a superior hotel. The staff are both charming and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

With a fantastic view of the Citadel from the rooftop; wonderfully characterful rooms (from the stone-lined and vaulted room tucked in to the corner of the second house to the lovely domed room opening onto the courtyard there - you can see the dome with its coloured lights in the right of the photo); cool courtyard gardens and pleasant restaurants, staying at the Diwan Rasmy is indeed a great experience.

Spring Flower Hostel: The hostel you dream of
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The hostel you dream of, is the way this hostel advertises itself! The place is very warm & personal. It's an old arabic house. The rooms are very modest & basic. But mainly clean. The staff is very friendly. And you'll have a very enjoyable experience over-all. It's a great sensation when you're dozing off to sleep ... staring at a wall that was built some 100 years ago!!!!

    tourist hotel: chez madame olga
  • Tip Rating:
  • Wonderful incredible multilingual staff - and extra-clean rooms. A really comfortable place to stay only 15 minutes walk from the Old Town. And there's a fun old black and white TV in the rooms, which should deserve to be placed in a museum (but it works). Madame Olga is the semi-paralitic french-speaking owner - she's a real institution, everyone knows her in Aleppo - and she's always happy to exchange a few words with the passing traveller.

a cosy spacious room with tiny balcony. No private bathroom, but the staff were always busy cleaning the showers and toilets. Impossible to get them cleaner... they were sparkling!
