The only hotel inside the souq
Dar Halabia Hotel which provides basic accomodation, is located within the souq in Aleppo.
As such, shopping was convenient, but then again, if you wish to travel outside the souq, you must wade through the crowd, in order to reach the street.
My room was clean, the breakfast, good with brewed coffee (a big plus, when other hotels serve instant), and I found the staff, to be, very helpful. My only complaint would be that even with waiting, I could never get anything warmer than tepid water, in the shower. That being said, the hotel is a good value (paid 32 Euro, with breakfast).
Visited in September, 2008.
Unique Quality: centrally located in the souq

Dar Halabia Hotel Aleppo
This was a very reasonably priced hotel with air conditioned room and nice courtyard in traditional building. A very nice breakfast is held upstairs on the open air terrace and included cheese, olives, eggs, bread, jam, honey etc. Very large bed.
Unique Quality: The hotel is in the old city which makes for a nice night walk through the eerily empty souks.

In the old city..
Dar Halabia
Dar Halabia is the only hotel located in the old city, established in 2001. The very friendly owner has done a good job; the place is nice, clean and quiet, the courtyard lovely, there is delicious free tea with cinnamon and even though the rooms are small and a little impersonal, I really enjoyed staying there. The disadvantages came when I decided to use the other services of Halabia Travel and Tourism. For example, when I booked the hotel room I asked the owner to book me also a car with a driver for a trip around Aleppo. The car ended up to be a taxi with its driver and even though a friend of mine decided to join me the last minute, we didn’t share the cost; the (expensive) charge was per person and not per car...
