Saffeer hotel: Nice central hotel

Very nice hotel 4 star good for weekend breaks and culture groups, hotel has a nice open air swimming pool and an access to one of the Monastery caves.

hotel safir: 4* hotel: not recommended

No, I did not stay here... actually no one really needs to stay here, since Maalula is so close to Damascus. Big, modern, ugly, overpriced. It's right opposite the Saint Sergius and Bacchus monastery, which seems a bit like an insult to such holy place. On one side of the road people have woved to live simply and in poverty, on the other side people spend an unnecessary fortune for a posh bed. Without being religious, I still feel that this hotel is making money out of people's faith, and thus irrespectful.

Unique Quality: restaurant, bars and a swimming pool. :-(
