Hotel Raffoul: Best budget choice
There is a piece of paper with Hotel Raffoul written in faded letters taped to the open door but its not hard to find, almost directly opposite the Tartous museum or otherwise known as the Cathedral of Lady Tartous. Go to the little shop on the corner of the street (other end from taxi stand) and ask the owner of the shop and hotel to let you in. He is quite lovely and speaks French and English. Doubles 400 and singles 250. Most rooms have own bathroom and some with balcony. The place is spotlessly clean, toilet paper supplied, and careful instructions to please not throw rubbish out the window and keep kitchen clean.
The kitchen is tiny but good for making coffee.
I was a bit miffed when I left that the cleaner insisted I take my stuff out of the room at 10.30 when checkout is 12 but the owner apologised profusely so all is forgiven and I still recommend this hotel.
