One of Latakia's best hotels although it does not live up to the European standards one might have in mind before traveling. On the plus side: spacious, well-kept rooms (we stayed in a junior suite), good and cheap restaurant (main dishes between 5-8 USD), nice view from the rooms. On the minus side: arrogant and impatient front desk staff if there are too many guests; no English-speaking staff AT ALL, not even by the reception desk, nor do they speak other languages except Arabic; no city maps, brochures, or other information on the city or the surrounding area; dilapidated hotel building and extremely filthy beachfront with virtually no staff or snack-bar open in the off-season (the time when we went there) ... and you will get charged for using the pool (quite a nice sum compared to Syrian prices) before occupying your room. In spite of its many disadvantages, Le Meridien is the best hotel where you can stay at a relatively low price. Good location, not far from city center. The fact that no English is spoken in town and virtually no one is able to give you directions should tell you two things: get a map and a phrase book before you begin your travels, and always be very patient with the locals and the cabbies ... they are nice but a bit slow on the uptake.
I stayed in a twin room with my freind. The room is very comfortable. There are two beds, sattelite TV, safety box, bath room, and so on in the room in my case.
