KIZIL KULE - the red tower
by Maria_75
The sultan Alaaddin Keykubat struggled for five years before he finally conquered Alanya in 1226. He then built the red tower to protect the shipyard in the city. The tower is located on the harbour.
It is 33 meters high, and has 5 floors inside. Along with the castle it's one of the most famous landmarks of Alanya. It is even a picture of it on the 250.000 turkish lira bill.
There are sometimes exhibitions in the first floor where you can see everything from carpets, worktools or weapons from different periods.
The tower is open from 10-18 every day.

"Friendly people"
Iv'e been to alanya 3 times, and there is only one thing that never changes. People are always very kind and friendly.
My First visit in Alanya was 1992, the same year the Danes won the European Championship in Soccer. I'll never forget how the Danish tourists rented trucks and cars only just to horn and drink beer whole night. I'll never forget how untouched Alanya were back in 1992. There were more local people out on the street, the city was smaller, there were not so many fancy hotels and the people of Alanya was poor. I remeber once, when I brought my fishing rod to the harbour to fish. In a few seconds there were thousand of small kids around me to just watch the rod and all of them had never seen something like that.
I came to visit Alanya again last year, the exploitation and development was a well-known fact. There were hotels everywhere and the Alanya I visited exactly ten years ago was not the same. There were more boats at the harbour, more people on the street, more pickpockets and more resturants.
I was luckely to be here during the World Championship (Soccer) and Turkey finished in 3:rd spot and I the people celebrated it in a wonderful way! I will always love Turkey and the happy people here.
The things that hadn't change was friendly people.
