Hi,
Could anyone please give me and my girlfriend any advice about Alanya, we are taking our first holiday together there on June 7th and would be grateful for any advice or recommendations during our stay. Things such as a good local restaurant to eat at, places to see and things to do, apart from the obvious tourist ones, best place to hire car/change money, watch the sun go down, good bars e.t.c. A lot of information i know!!! Hope fully someone can offer some pearls of wisdom, thankyou and we both appreciate your time should you be able to help.

I will be in Alanya in Sep, we went there 8 years ago so it will be interesting to find out how much the place has changed. If you like sunbathing and beaches in general Alanya has 2 of them, stick to Cleopatra's beach which is on the right of the castle fortress its far better than the other one which is on the other side of the castle, that one is full of large rocks.
Oh and if you spot the hotel Riviera which is opersit Cleopatra's beach, please let me know what it looks like as we are staying here.

Cliff September is the best time in Alanya. The hotel riviera is a nice hotel. It is just on the cleopatra beach. Cleopata beach as you said is the best part of Alanya. Clean and well keept. Free for all people. But you must pay for the umbrella and resting bed.It takes walking to the centre of city only 20 minutes. There is also a publich bus service. I live 3 streets behind the hotel in Oral Sokak. and share the same beach. But this summer unfortunately I will be in Cesme near Izmir. So I can not visit you. Lauri and Gavin, You will love my residance Alanya. I live in Alanya since 1990. Unfortunately I am now in Ankara and will be in Cesme near Izmir in July. Alanya is a nice place. There are many things to do for young people. Alanya is a big city and have 100 miles of beaches. As cliff said cleopatra beach is the best beach in Alanya. There are lots of restaurants and cafes in Alanya. There will be no problem. The cafes and restaurants in the harbour is expencive. You can watch the sun down from Cleo beach better. The sun dawns in Alanya at between 19-20 o'clock. Just under the castle at the cleo side there is a cave called "Damlatasch Magarasi". At that point there are cafes and restaurants where you can watch sun dawn. Drink a glas Beer for me. Have a nice time in Alanya. Please visit my Alanya page for cons.
In lots of shops and restaurants you are being offered apple tea. It a very hospitable gesture.
The tea is very sweet and it is offered in special decorated tea glasses. Sometimes you get also some candy (Turkish Fruit) with your tea.
A cool shady valley ideal for a picnic and a bit of peace and quiet next to a babbling stream.
The cave is a 50 minute walk from the village of Yaylali along the water channels or just follow the Dim cayi valley until you reach the Western slopes of Cebireis mountain.The cave is 357 m deep flat and dry inside with a small lake at the end.
During prehistoric times and historic it was used as shelter and recently was called Gavurini cave by the locals.
