Inside information...

by belgianchocolate

Just a few more days to go...

What i wanted to find out , I got a good travel guide , so...

-Where are the really good spots for dinner , the ones not that touristic ...a bit of the beaten track?

-Is it easy to travel around by public transport , or is it better to rent a car for a few days?

-Some special spots to visit? Nice villages in the mountains?

-Where do the locals go for shopping?

-markets?

Hi,

About your first question, I think on Alanya pages of VT members you can find nice tips.
It is easy to travel around Alanya by public transport however it would be more comfortable if you rent a car, especially if you are planning to visit villages in the mountains etc. I recommend you to see Koprulu Canyon. If the weather is nice, you can enjoy rafting in the Canyon. For the rest, i guess, a local from Alanya would be more helpful to you.
Warning: Recently two tourists (women) and a local (a friend of them) is murdered around Alanya. Such things rarely happen in Turkey. But still it is good to be careful. Right?

Gokcecicek.

the bus system in turkey is very good.
i have worked as a tour guide in alanya and every week i had to go to the hospital to visit guests that had car accidents.
it's not that the drivers are that bad in turkey, but the driving mentality is different from northern europe.
also, remember that you are not allowed to have any alcohol in your blood if you are driving in turkey.
if you have a couple of days to spare you should visit cappadocia.
it's one of the most amazing landscapes you will ever see.

Travel Tips for Alanya

Dim Cave

by traveloturc

It is located 12 km east of Alanya, on the slope of Cebel-i Reis Mountain of 1,649 metres. It has an altitude of 232 m. The cave is introduced to the visitors in 1998 and it is the second biggest cave known to the visitors. It is estimated to be 1 million years old. There are two paths inside the cave one is of 50 m, the other of 360 metres. There is a small lake towards the and of the cave.
The 360 m. Long path is prepared and illuminated, so as to provide a pleasant excursion offering a tremendous scenery of stalagmite and stallactite for the visitors. After the excursion you can go down the path to Dim Creek valley or you can take the walk up the cave from the picnic area near the creek. There is a panoramic view of Alanya Fortress at the slope where the cave takes place. There are public buses going to the cave. Entrance is due to payment.

Alanya - cave

by olja1234

There are three main caves you can see during the excursion. First one is the Pirate's cave, the second is the Asiklar cave and the third, the most beautiful one is Fosforlu cave. Being inside, the water shines as if phosforescently.
