Holiday in Altinkum for two single ladies in their 60s

by noreengdavies

What is Altinkum like? Are there plenty of nice restaurants and shopping? We like to browse and relax outside roadside cafes etc.

Altinkum is a nice resort. There is a shopping area, and there are resueraunts on the beach that are nice. Im not so sure about roadside cafes though, I didnt see any while I was there, but I could be wrong.

I do advise though, the turkish men sometimes harass women who are travelling on their own. I had problems with harassment when I was there.
When are you going? :)

Hope ive helped

I haven't visited Altinkum but, as Ranger says, it looks a very pleasant place and one which is certainly used to visitors.

Being much nearer to your age group than Sophie (Red Star Nightmare) is, unfortunately, I can reassure you that, from my own experiences in Turkey, the chances of being 'harassed' in any way are very low.

You should, however, understand that it is common practice in terms of selling things to call out to passers-by, invite them in and so on and so forth. If you are not interested just say 'No thank you' and keep walking. Don't be drawn into conversation, for by allowing that to happen you are indicating an interest in whatever is on offer. Doing this may feel a bit rude but it is not perceived as rude whereas showing an interest, listening to all the sales spiel and then not buying anything at all may well be perceived as rude.

Travel Tips for Altinkum

Only drink bottled water

by mvtouring

Drink bottled spring water and not tap water, tap water in Turkey is full of minerals and most people’s stomack is not able to work with it. You could end up getting the Turkey trotts. A roadside cesme (fountain or spring) may say the word icilmez which means not to be drunk or icilebilir which means it can be drunk but i would avoid this unless you know for certain where the source of the spring originates from. Please check the bottles have not had the seal broken, if it has then leave well alone, chances are they have been filled with tap water.

Apollo temple the columns

by mvtouring

Standing amongst these columns are extremely intimidating and really makes you feel small. The architects and builders of this period were extremely skilled craftsman, they accomplished what we are not able to do with the best machinery available to us.
