A Short History of Termessos
by budapest8
Termessos (also known as Termessus) was inhabited by the Pisidians, an indigenous Anatolian nation of noted ferocity. The city first appears in history during the conquests of Alexander the Great. Alexander swept through the region but after winning a skirmish in the narrow mountain passes near the city, declined to storm it. (Guidebooks consistently portray Alexander as unable to take the city, but in fact he was merely disinclined to try.) After Alexander's death the city saw a famous clash during the wars of Alexander's "Successors." One of Alexander's generals, Alcetas, found himself trapped in the city by another of Alexander's generals, Antigonus the "One-Eyed." Beloved by the city's young people, Alcetas was betrayed by its "senior citizens" and comitted suicide rather than fall into Antigonus' hands. Mutilated and left unburied by Antigonus, Alceta's body was retrieved by the younger generation and given a hero's burial. The extant "lion sarcophagus" has convincingly been identified as his final resting place?among the only surviving graves of Alexander's friends and companions.

Ancient Roman outdoor Theatre
by deannatravel
This theatre was built in the 2nd century and is one of the best preserved and is still used for performances. At it's peak the structure held 15,000 people. It is a wonderful place to visit for those who appreciate these types of structures and their place in history. This is a meanful site to christains as this is the first place Paul and Barnabus visited when they began their missioary journeys. If you are interested in this type of Christian tour you can contact us at our website.

This was an interesting looking shop!
The window was full of colourful of different types of cooking oil. I didn't go in but I assume it was a general store, as they also were selling large economy bags of washing powder, as seen in the picture.
ritamitsouko's new Antalya Page
by ritamitsouko
Here we go! I´m new at VT and so I don't know exactly what to do or write...But I can say something about Antalya, which is one of my favourite places so far. We are a family with three children and because my husband's origin is Turkey, we regularly visit this country. My husband's home is the Black-Sea-Coast in the North of Turkey, which is also very nice to visit! But we love Antalya because of the climate and so we bought an appartment there (with three children you can't afford any hotel longer than two weeks, but we usually stay for four weeks). Our next tickets are bought, in July we are going to Antalya again. I´m looking forward to this!
