Re: From Bogazkent to Pamukkale

Virtual Tourist or VT as we call it, is not a tour operator nor a booking agent. In fact VT does not engage in any sort of travel business. It is a website of enthusiastic travellers that share their experiences and tips on places around the world and the forums are here to help other travellers and would be travellers with their travel plans.

We only give out advise on destinations, how, what, when, where, and why, travel to any destination. Questions are answered by members who selflessly assist other travellers.

The advertisements tht you see on VT pages are from a variety of travel operators/airlines/hotels and such, that realise that this website is frequented by travel minded people and there for are potential customers.

All that being said, we often refer people to websites that we trust, that engage in local tours, or recommend hotels in a destination, we are familiar with and so on.

For instance, regarding your question, I gather you would like a tour to Pamukkale, Turkey. Not knowing where you hail from or if you expect the tour to originate in Bogazkent, or even if you are looking for a day tour or several days, I can only give you a couple of general leads to start your research.

Just to clarify, - I do not know these operators personally. I am merely showing you how this works. Well, except the last one, - the coach company I have used for my tours (I am/was a tour director). So, - if you catch my drift, you can come back with more information (approx ages, interests budget etc), perhaps some local folks can respond in more detail. Have fun planning.....d:o)

If you travel to Antalya, You should not pass Aspendos without visiting.. , Aspendos located beside the river Köprüçay, is renowned throughout the world for its magnificent ancient amphitheatre. Situated a little way off the Antalya - Alanya main road just after Serik the city of Aspendos dates back to the 5th century BC. The Seljuks later used this extremely well preserved Roman amphitheatre, which was built around the 2nd century AD, as a caravanserai. With a seating capacity of around 10-12,000, it is still used today to host spectacular concerts, ballets and other significant events.

The surrounding district of Aspendos is called as Belkis today. And there are regular tours to Aspendos from Antalya, else you can take a bus, probably Antalya- Alanya bus and stop at Belkis at the highway.. There are taxis going to Aspendos, but you can also walk ( A tough walking nearly 4 Km ) depending the weather condition...

Myra

by marsistanbul

Myra was one of the earliest Lycian city.At the same time of the Lycian Federation,Myra was one of the most important city with tree voices in the Federation's council.Although the history of Myra's first foundation is not known from some Lycian ruins,rock-tombs and inscriptions found in the area.It would appear that the settlement existed in the V century B.C.
In the year 18 A.D. the emperoe Germanicus and his wife Agrippa visited Myra,in 60 A.D. of importance was the brief visit of the St.Paul on his way to Rome.In the II century A.D. dignified by the tittle of Metropolis.During the Byzantine period, especially 4-5 century A.D. Myra became the centre of religious and administrative affairs. In the IV century A.D. St.Nicholas became bishop of Myra, famous in his own time for the miracles he performed.
Myra's Greco-Roman theatre has 35 rows of seats. The stage building is still standing up the second course in places and from the remaining fragments,it would appear thet the facade facing the audience was extremely decorative. The theatre is in a relatively good condition.
The famous Lycian rock-tombs in Myra, the tombs of the sea necropolis are to be found on the steep cliff to the east and west of the theatre. The tombs of the so called river necropolis are located on the northeast side of the hill.Although they vary in type and size, most belong to the house type
