Chimeara

by btlim

Can i make a day trip to Olympos to see the chimeara at night? It is there any buses traveling from Antalya and how long it takes?

Re: Chimeara

by unaS

It requires an overnight trip unless you have your own car. One takes a bus from Kas that stops on top of the hill and from there shared taxis go down to the different hotels/hostels. Reserve in advance.

The climb begins about 11 pm. All the local hotels/hostels serve a late breakfast the next morning so that you can sleep in a bit after returning.

Travel Tips for Antalya

Take a Christmas Day swim at Lara Beach

by budapest8

Our hotel overlooked the cliffs with the beach and sea below.
When the weather is clear, a really fantastic view of the mountains
in the distance. The water has been heating up all year so not so cold for
a dip.
There is always a belly dance show put on at most hotels..
Don't miss it.
Lada my Russian girlfriend swimming naked early afternoon
in Lara bay and after about 20 mins, all the resteraunt workers
were sitting on the cliff watching her swimming about like a porpoise.
They sat smiling and dangling their legs, until the bosses came out to see why
the staff had abandoned their posts. Well thank God it wasn't in Saudi Arabia,
or at Brighton Beach NY or Cox'x Bazzar in Bangladexh.
Still Lada loved sensations and a bit of scandal to keep things from becoming
to repetative!

Personal jewelry

by Leipzig

See how your personal jewelry are made. It is really interesting how much work it neds to make a ring or a chain of gold or even silver.
However, noble metals cost the same all over the world but the costs of production in Turkey are lower than elswhere in Europe.

Antalya

by mvtouring

Our first free day was in Antalya and we were given the choice of going out to sea by boat or exploring the town on our own. We opted to explore the town on our own rather in a relaxed manner. I sincerely hope that my tips will provide you the reader with a good insight into this lovely city.
Antalya is Turkey's principal holiday resort in the Mediterranean region . It is an attractive city with shady palm-lined boulevards, a prize-winning marina on the Mediterranean. In the picturesque old quarter, Kaleici, narrow winding streets and old wooden houses abut the ancient city walls. Lately, many foreigners have bought (and continue to buy) property in and around Antalya for their holidays or for the retirement. It became a popular area especially for the German and Russian nationals.

Since its founding in the second century B.C. by Attalus II, a king of Pergamon, who named the city Attaleai after himself, Antalya has been continuously inhabited. The Romans, Byzantines and Seljuks in turn occupied the city before it came under Ottoman rule. The elegant fluted minaret of the Yivli Minareli Mosque in the center of the city built by the Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubat in the 13th century has become the Antalya's symbol. The Karatay Medrese (theological college) in the Kaleici district, from the same period, exemplifies the best of Seljuk stone carvings. The two most important Ottoman mosques in the city are the 16th century Murat Pasa Mosque, remarkable for its tile decoration, the 18th century Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque. Neighboring the marina, the attractive late 19th century Iskele Mosque is built of cut stone and set on four pillars over a natural spring. The Hidirlik Kulesi (tower) was probably originally constructed as a lighthouse in the second century. Today a church, the Kesik Minaret Mosque attests to the city's long history in its succession of Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman renovations.
