Local things
by beatle74
The road that takes you there is bordered with little houses and shops where you might want to stop and taste delicious Turkish pastries and have a cup of tea. If you get a chance to chat with the owners, ask them about the history of the island. That's the best way to learn....I saw that the boat's guide doesn't know too much about the history....but they can summarize them all during the trip...but details....as always with the local guys...

the special spell of the site, comes, for archeologists despair, from stagnant waters:walls and columns appearing from a so poetic way...

Friendly and tremendous food
by chrisnsue about Rendezvous Restaurant
From the polite greeting of the owner at the doorway through to leaving after your meal, the staff could not be any more friendly and helpful. Language is not a difficulty as all the waiting staff can hold a conversation in English and are interesting enough that you want to chat with them. Now the food is superb and the portions are not mean. The owner, Güven Kahraman, and some of the staff were previously at the Doy Doy (another recommendation) and moved up the hill to open the Rendezvous Terrace Restaurant. There is no animosity and both restaurants recommend each other.
It is nice to see that Rendezvous is not just a tourist haunt and a number of Turkish businessmen frequent the restaurant.
Price was also reasonable and therefore extremely good value considering the quality and atmosphere. Steaks, Kebabs and the SeaBass were all superb and the portions, main and salads were generous. The desserts looked fabulous but I just couldn't manage it!
Kalkan architecture
by Diana75
Kalkan is still maintaing features remembering about its Greek origin. These can be clearly seen in the architecture of the buildings which is very similar to the architecture of the nearby Greek island of Meis (Castellorizo).
A former Greek Orthodox church located in the harbor has been converted into a mosque, while the narrow streets are winding up bordered by stone buildings with beautiful courtyards and gardens.
Tandem Paragliding
by ann500
You can go tandem paragliding in neaby Kas, a half hour away on the dolmus (inexpensive shared minibus). It's not as scary as it might seem - I did it and I'm normally a chicken. I had a great time! (That's me in the photo) You get an amazing view gliding over the mountains and the harbour. Check in a Kalkan tour agency and they can mostly likely arrange this for you, or go to a tour agency in Kas. The place we did it with is found near Kas' harbour.
