Kalkan
by sandysmith
Kalkan, once a smalll fishing resort is now a sophisticated Turkish resort with fantastic restaurants with views over the bay, wonderfully friendly locals, and excellent trips making it a good base to explore the turquoise coast of Turkey as this part is known and also inland of the Lycian region with its many archaeological sites just waiting to be explored. Bear in mind there are some steep hills so not suited for the less mobile. I can't say it was the prettiest place I've been to in Turkey - I think ongoing development around the bay will gradually spoil this much loved resort - its popular with Brits buying properties here - but the sheer number and variety of restaurants in Kalkan with the views over the harbour is a big plus factor.

13km river raft ride to Patara Beach through the remote valleys. Suitable for swimmers from age 12 upwardsFor this less adventurous, or family groups, canoeing on gentler waters is also great fun. Barbeque lunch by the riverside is included.
Best Restaurant in Kalkan
by Sophie290 about The Ivy Roof Terrace
On a recent holiday to Kalkan I had the pleasure of dining at a beautiful roof terrace restaurant called The Ivy. It is located at the bottom of the main shopping street near the harbour steps above a sweet cafe called Cafe Del Mare (I think!) The entrance is in a cobbled side alley full of beautiful plants and flowers. The menu is a mixture of Turkish, Mediterranean & Asian fusion dishes. I had the sweet chilli salmon and it was delicious. Also I recommend you try the warm halva dessert. The staff were very friendly and professional and the views were the best I experienced, uninterrupted of Kalkan bay, no other roof tops in the way. The restaurant is decorated very nicely and is very picturesque at night with all the tables lit by candle lanterns. The chairs are very comfortable and they play great jazz & world music. It has a different feel to the others and I just loved my 2 evenings there and for such a reasonable cost. I highly recommend it. The hallumi cheese salad and the sweet chilli salmon followed by warm halva dessert. Fantastic presentation and flavours. Just wonderful.

Close to Tlos is this trout farm and restaurant. Not only is the fish fresh and delicious the setting with waterways and fountains is cool and refreshing in the summer heat. There is even a bar with trout swimming in it!
Kalkan Beach - Blue Flag Awarded
by ann500
Kalkan has a nice pebble beach in the harbour with sun loungers. It has been awarded a Blue Flag Award for its cleanliness. The water depth drops off not far from the shore, so you don't have to walk over pebbles for long.
In the mornings the beach is often rather empty and you can watch the boats leaving for the day. The beach is near several restaurants and the Fener cafe at the lighthouse is right next to the beach. There are toilets to the right (looking towards the harbour) of the cafe.
If you are looking for a larger beach, there is award-winning Patara beach (voted as one of the top beaches in the world by Times Online, Best of 2005 ) and the beautiful ever-turquoise Kaputas Beach, just short distances away. Or if you want to stay in town there are several lovely beach clubs.
