Kaputas Beach
by sandysmith
Some 15mins away in the opposite direction to Patatra is Kaputas - probably the most photographed beach in Turkey. I anticipated going here but as we passed it on our way to Kas it looked much smaller than I expected, there was no shade from the heat and absolutely no facilities not to mention the 100 + steps up and down to the beach from the busy highway. Ok a fabulous beach but not for me a blondie frying in the heat here so just settled for a view from the roadside.
Some boat trips will anchor off here and let people swim to the shore - heard that strong curents make it difficult to get back to the boat though.
Swimming in Kaputas

Actually Kaputas beach it is not an "off the beaten path" place anymore, because the ones that passed on this side before returned many times.
Still I'd like to think of it as an "off the beaten path" place because, as it opens on the road, it really gives you the impression that you are the first that discovered this heavenly place.
And even if you are in a hurry you cannot pass it without stopping for swimming in one of the most beautiful turquoise waters I have ever seen in Turkey.
Not just egg plant.
by Tdiver about Aubergine.
Mainly Turkish cuisine but some other interesting dishes as well.Nice place to eat in with live music varying each night. All restaurants are on the more expensive side in town with this being at the top end but it is still cheap by European equivolents. I had the Marrocan lamb stew,it was really tender.
Kalkan's harbor
by Diana75
The harbor at the foot of the towering Taurus Mountains seems to be the center of the town activities.
Kalkan's narrow streets wind down to the harbor where you can sit at one of the many fine restaurants and watch the fishermen.
Kaputas beach.

About 5 minutes out of town, this is a popular sandy beach.
If you're driving then park on the roadside but most people arrive by dolmus or minibus.
From Kalkan leave by the koop minibus stop.
Lots of stairs down to the beach and of course back up.
At the bottom of the stairs you can hire an umbrella but i recommend you take your own drinks.
To get back just wait on the road for the next dolmus or minibus.
As you can see by the broken stairs and rocks,it is not the place to be when the stream is in flood.
