Mud baths

by happyhormones

I used to think mud baths can only be done in Marmaris! haha how silly of me! Mud baths are free in Kas because they are so abundantly available and you can just stop and slap on the mud, let it dry, and wash off. Repeat if desired :')

Sarkophag in the middle of the road..

by Erkmen

When we were walking in Kas, we have climbed a small road which is surrounded by shops.. At the top of the road we have stayed and just turned our heads and see this Sarkophag..

A very well preserved sarkophag was standing in the middle of the road, and this is really something you can not see anywhere..

One of the oldest civilizations in Anatolia was the lykians and they have traces all around anatolia.. Also there are many historical ruins arouns kas, and this sarkophag is one of the most significant one..

Great photographic site, when i was there i was the only visitor.Capitol of the Lycian Federation and its' largest city.Finds dating back to the 8th century B.C. Harpy tomb,Pillar tomb,Obelisk, amphitheatre, triumphal arch,Byzantine church with mosaic floors and a fortress on top of the acropolis.
Something i wish was still here but is now in the British museum is the NEREID MONUMENT

Busy place.

"A brief history."

Habesos is the earliest name of the ancient city but it is more normally called Antiphellos as it was the harbour of ancient Phellos.Findings show settlement back to the 4th century B.C.
It reached its height during the Roman and Byzantine periods and was famous for its sponges.
The Seljuks renamed it Andifli when they ruled the area but it has been called Kas meaning eyebrow or something curved since the Ottomans took over.

"Lots going on."

It seems the square down by the Marina is the place to hang out and with its glut of bars, cafes and shops it seems a good idea. Diving is my best reason for coming here with lots of dive sites to choose from and as most centres come back at lunchtime, you can dive just the morning or afternoon.
My Kalkan pages have the archaeological sites on to go and visit in the local area and some of the nearby beaches.
Popular is a trip across to the Greek island of Kastellorizo or Meis in Turkish, or a glass bottomed boat trip down to Kekova.
Popular and most shady place in the centre is Noel Baba tea house/cafe, serves most drinks and snacks.

Local Government web site is just in Turkish at present WEB SITE
