Side
A ruined Hellenistic port and one-time trysting place of Antony and Cleopatra. Side meant Pomegranete in the local language- which was the symbol used on the coins of Side. Side lost its prominence in the 4th Century AD. with earthquakes, Christian zealots and Arab raids, by the 10Century AD, the site was completely abandoned, left to be buried. Today its history, sandy beaches and lively town area with its many shops and bars are a magnet for the tourists. Its a great holiday destination.
