Kusadasi, Cappadocia, Mount Nemrut and Istanbul

by Poling

Hi I will be travelling to Turkey next week. I need the below details for planning the trip:

1. How frequent is the ferry from Samos to Kusadasi and how long does it take?
2. Any bus from Kusadasi to Mount Nemrut? How frequent and how long?
3. If no bus from Munt Nemrut, I plan to do a short visit to Efes(?) and then take an overnight bus to Cappadocia. Is it possible?
4. I will spend two days in Cappadocia. If I arrive in the early morning (day one) and not be able to find a tour for the day, what can you recommend me to do?
5. Day two in Cappadocia I will join a tour, how much would it normally cost?
6. Day three I will head to Mount Nemrut, is it normally that I will spend a night there, go for the sun rise?
7. Is there bus from Mount Nemrut to Istanbul? Or I need to go back Cappadocia or head to the capital?

Thanks a lot!!

I can help you with some of your questions.
If you arrive in the early morning you will definetely find a tour. Goreme is a nice town and for me the most egzotic one in Capadocia. I heard Urgup is a bit bigger and has more bars, pubs etc. If you can't join a tour one of the things you can do is renting a motorbike (a scooter actually and see around by yourself), there are also baloon tours which take like 1-2 hours. They happen in the morning but a bit pricy. Maybe 100 US $ but I am not so sure about the price. We paid 40 YTL for a daily trip last january. But that was low season, I don't how much are the prices now. Both from Capadoccia and Nemrut area you can catch a direct bus to Istanbul. If worse comes to worse catch one to Ankara. Every half an hour many busses depart for Istanbul from Ankara bus terminal. Just try to be in Ankara after 6 am in the morning and before midnight.

Dear Polina
your 2 question: No there is not busses from Kusadasi to nemrut. The nearest bus stations that you can find busses to nemrut or Adiyaman is the city Aydın (63 km from Kusadasi)from aydın to Adıyaman its 1233 km !!! so you have to realize that Turkiye is a big country and you need to travel 1300 km to reach Adiyaman and you need more to go after Adiyaman to Kahta and Nemrut Mountain at the end .
question 3-Yes you may visit Efes and Capadaoccia also is possible ( as long as you go to İzmir or aydın bus terminals)
question 6-yes you have to spend a night in Adiyaman or in Kahta
question 7-Yes you can find a bus from Adiyaman to istanbul
good luck

"PIRATE'S CASTLE"

by balhannah

This Castle is located on the highest point of Pigeon Island. It is a Byzantium Castle that was built up on the rocks. During the time of the Ottoman Empire, it was used as a lookout point to stop Pirate's attacks, hence, this is how it got its name. The Tower, which is a the top of the Island, was used by Guards for their accommodation and for a lookout. There is also a cistern here.

Filipino Food, Turkish Hospitality

"Cooking Adobo in Turkey"

I was looking forward to Kusadasi, mostly because I was anxious to visit Ephasus. My day started, though, with an unexpected treat.

On board the Rotterdam, during the 2001 World Cruise, I found out the the Filipino beverage staff usually rented the kitchen and dining room of a restaurant near the port. They'd buy fresh vegetables and seafood and cook their favorite foods.

I was invited to join them and am so glad I was! We started at the fishmarket - haggling with a some very friendly Turks over the fish, caught that morning.

After buying some fresh vegetables, we moved on to the restaurant - just a block away. There were about 10 of us in the kitchen - chopping, cleaning, stirring, frying. All of this supervised by the Turkish manager of the restaurant, who seemed to be having as good a time as we were.

After about two hours of intensive cooking, the first of the crew began to arrive. Lunch was served in shifts, since all the crew couldn't be off the ship at the same time. During a three hour period, though, about 45 of us enjoyed fried and grilled fish, squid adobo, senagong and a lot of rice.

"Ephesus"

While the late lunch arrivals were still eating, three of us headed off to Ephasus. We timed it perfectly, arriving just as bus loads of other tourists were leaving.

Walking through the quiet ruins, trying to absorb how many years ago it was built was something I'll never forget.

The ruins are being restored with exacting detail, enabling visitors to get a sense of what it was like to walk through the streets hundreds of years ago.

"St. Paul"

I sat down to rest and enjoy the moment. As I looked around, I realized that I was sitting in the spot where St. Paul had preached to the Ephesians.

There was no one else around. The air was stil, with only the sound of a nearby bird. The hills were green, with occasional splashes of purple flowers.
