Villages & Scuba diving

by BigFella06

Hi there,

Just posted the below message in Izmir forum. If you can recommend some nice places/villages we could visit around Efes and Kusadasi area, I'd appreciate it. Meanwhile let me know of any good places which organise scuba diving.

Brgds,
BF

Merhaba,

My first time to Turkey was in Istanbul on a business trip a long time ago. I always wanted to go back and explore it further from as a tourist and get to know with local people. So finally here I am! Although not the best time of the year, at the peak of the tourist season, we?ll do all possible to stay off the main touristy and busy areas.

We are spending most of our time in the around Efes, one day in Izmir and three days in Istanbul. We like archeology, nature, the beautiful sea and strolling around little villages, where we can enjoy a nice meal cooked not for the numerous tourists but mainly for locals and any visitors (tourists) who stop by? So if you know such place around Efes area, please let me know.

Few questions for Izmir forum:

Can someone recommend a nice restaurant with local or Turkish cuisine in Izmir city?

Is it easy to find a taxi at Izmir airport to go to Kusadasi region or it?s better to have booked one in advance? We may arrive really late at night but that depends on the connecting flight?

Is the taxi price from Izmir airport to Kusadasi about $50 and do we have to pay in $ or normally in the recently launched Yeni Turkish lira?

Tesekkurler,
BF

Scuba diving wasn't the best when i was last there,a few shallowish caves to the north are worth a look.Pigeon island reef was nothing but a barren place.
Try this site, although some of the dive centres might not be working now.Didn't have long enough last year to check them out whilst i was in town, good luck.
www.scubaturkiye.com
go to english pages then dive spots, scroll down to southern aegean shores and click on Kusadasi then hit search.

Hi again,i've been looking at the dive centres and can only see the ones on my Kusadasi page that are likely to be working still.Couldn't get any more information than what i've found so good luck.

I paid £30 for a taxi from Izmir airport to Kusadasi and paid in Sterling... Many people want sterling as it does not devalue.

Well Euro, Sterling or Dollar

You can get culture overload at Ephesus - the most amazing open-air historical museum I have ever been to and one I could return to time and time again - there's always something new to discover.

Founded before the 10th centurty and the Temple of Artermis (Diana) errected here was one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Visit the ancient site of Pergamon.

The ancient site of Pergamon is one of the finest in Turkey. The city was a great centre of culture and was a rival to Ephesus. It was here in Pergamon that parchment was invented when Egypt suspended the export of papyrus.

kusadasi

by TomorrowsAngel

We drove from Seddulbahir to Kusadasi in one day.
It took about 8 hours, with lots of stops along the way.
There were lots of roadside stalls, selling everything from home-bottled olive oil, to fertility gods.

Kusadasi is one of Turkey's main holiday resorts, and has a reputation as one of the most beautiful Aegean cities.
It is located on Turkey's west coast -90km south of Izmir.
It is located near some important historical sites - Ephesus, Didyma, Priene, Miletos.
