Private tour company in Kusadasi

by 2gman

Hi, We are in Kusadasi for a day off the the cruise ship the Celebrity Solstice on June 21.
Can anyone recommend a private tour company they have used to go to Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis that will pick you up dock side ?
Thanks.

Hi - I would check www.cruisecritic.com. They usually have plenty of recommendations for tour companies/private cars. Temple of Artemis and Seven Sleepers are not much but make sure to see the Virgin Mary's House, St. John's Basilica, Isa Bey Mosque, and Ephesus Museum while you're there. Also, pay the additional fee at Ephesus to see the Terrace Houses. Have a great time!!

we used a guide ilker_eti@yahoo.com who was very accomodating and quite knowledgeable. i most certainly agree with donna - pay the extra money and see the terrace houses. and don't miss the small but power packed ephesus museum in selcuk. we passed on the basilica and instead got a drive to visit kusadasi briefly and he was totally compliant with our change, gave us a full day.

and as donna said, the temple of artemis is a five minute visit. the single remaining column is faux, comprised of a bunch of column fragments one on top of the other. should be at the bottom of your list.

We agree that you should definitely visit the small, but good, Ephesus museum in Selcuk in addition to to seeing the Ephesus ruins. We also agree that it is worth paying extra to see the Terrace Houses in the Ephesus ruins. The Terrace Houses have the most well-preserved mosaics in Ephesus. If you are religious, the Virgin Mary House is a nice side trip. It is about 15 minutes away from Ephesus up into the mountains. On the way up, you get some good views of Selcuk, Ephesus, and the surrounding countryside. The Temple of Artemis is only worth visiting if you want to say that you have been at the site of one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world. There is only one column left (out of more than 100). When arranging transportation for the day, make sure that you find out if your driver intends to make a stop at a carpet shop. Some try to include one in the day's itinerary hoping that they will earn a commission from the shop if you buy a carpet. If you aren't interested in carpets, it will waste precious time in your day that could be better spent sightseeing.

Feel free to visit our Ephesus and Selcuk pages for photos and tips.

Things to Do

by kustur

Hi Helen,

lots to do in Kusadasi and beyond.
Wednesday is clothes market day were you can practice your haggling
Tuesday and Friday are the farmer's food markets.
The Dolmus will take you anywhere. You can hop on the Kusadasi to Soke one if you fancy great deals in gold as Soke is full of gold & silver shops frequented by the locals [sometimes the ones in Kusadasi are geared for the'rich' cruise boat customers.
You can catch the daily ferry to the Greek island of Samos and collect a full duty free allowance as you enter and leave the EU.
Also you can shop in the Turkish Duty Free shop after you collect your bags on arrival at the airport.
Ephesus is a most as well as Mary's house and a visit to Sircence - a greek village in the mountains outside Selcuk for some home made fruit wine is nice.
Saturday market in Selcuk [regular Kusadasi to Selcuk Dolmus about 3 lira] is by far one of the better ones and well worth a visit - you can virtually buy anything.
Pamukale is also well worth a visit but you should consider over nighting if you visit - hotels are very good and very cheap if booked on the net.
Tescos have opened a new hypermarket in town - its known in Turkey as Kipa and free Kip[a buses run from the town centre regular. Believe it or not its worth visiting a place like Tesco or B&Q {KosTacs} to check out the diffrences from UK to Turkey.
Adaland is the biggest water park and well worth a day with Dolphins, white water rafting and a new shark pool.
You can even go as far as getting the train from Selcuk or an inter city bus from Kusadasi to Izmir to city shop/watch.
A day trip on a Gulet - with free soft drinks, entertainment, BBQ and swims in secluded bays leave at 10:00 returning at 16:00 for about 15 Euro and don't forget the Turkish bath - do this early in your holiday to maximise your tan [about 15 Euros or less]
There are brilliant Turkish restaurants in town with brilliant food and prices. Avlu, Lezzi Evit, Istanbul all spring to mind although I,m sure you will find your own. Most will give you free lifts back to your hotel.
Beware - the Dolmus mostly finish at Mid-night and from that point taxi fares double.
Enjoy

"Kusadasi"

The name of the town mean bird- Pigeon island ( Kus Adasi). And this because of the tiny little island located at the right entrees of the port and is connected by a dock with the land.
When you will first see Kusadasi- the photo is from the first turn to the sity coming from Selguk- you will not believe that 25 years ago it was a tiny little village with people leaving from fishing and agriculture.
Unfortunately became the place in witch all the experiment of –packet- tourist development at Turkey start...

The change to a modern international tourist destination adds to the village any kind of modern construction. Yacht marina, cruise port, Aqua Park, a huge number of hotels in the “city” and at the coastline and many, many Bars, Irish pub and restaurants that have nothing to do with the original Turkey...

Very good organized is also the “original East Bazaar” Tourist trap of shopping for leather coats, carpets, jeweller and so on.
