Travelling from Samos to Kusadasi

by Patrizia_Italy

Hi!My name's Patrizia and I am from Italy.
I'm planning my journey with my partner to Greece and Turkey for the next July. I'm trying to find info for a ferry from Samos to Kusadasi transporting cars as well. Are there any? What I found in websites don't mention cars. Do we need a passport and a visa as well?
The idea is to use the ferry one way and then drive north along the coast of Turkey to then pass the border mainland between Turkey and Greece. What is Kusadasi like? Any tip for a couple looking for some tranquil spots? We like historical sites, hiking and quiet beaches.

You will love Turkey.
Unfortunately Turkey is not known among Italians. You will wonder how great Romans were at the past. You will visit lots of ruins of Roman cities which you dont have in your own country. Ephesus near Kusadasi is a must to visit. It was the greatest Roman city even greater then Rome. You will visit home of Mother Mary. You will visit the church and grave of Saint John in Selcuk just 10 kms near Efessus and 25 Kms near to Kusadasi.

My Kusadasi page will give you a idea how it looks like.

visa: 10 EU for 3 months

Ordinary passport holders are required to have visa to enter Turkey. They can obtain three-month multiple entry visas at the Turkish border gates. Official passport holders are exempt from visa for their travels up to 90 days.

the boats going to kusadasi are small and i only ever saw 1 car on 1 of them. im thinking that if you are taking the car you maybe need to go into turkey via another port.

Travel Tips for Kusadasi

Open Bazzar every Friday

by Aggeliki

Every Friday villagers from and around Kusadasi bring their fresh fruits and vegetables to sell at this market. It is also possible to find textile, shoes and cosmetics, home equipment and anythings else a bazzar could have. The prices are very good.

The Orient Bazaar

by starship

The Orient Bazaar, quite close to the Balikci Limani (harbor), was as delightful as its name sounds. Along with the Grand Bazaar, it is one of the most popular shopping centers of Kusadasi. Row after row of neat little shops arranged in long corridors situated side-by-side offered all manner of wonderful goods to purchase.

The colorful awnings shade the bazaar by day, and lamp posts light it by night. Benches down the center of each row offers a break for people watching, for tired shoppers, and often shop owners themselves take time to sit just outside of their glass-front store displays. Perhaps the store owners are taking measure of the day's shopping crowd.

The shops of the Orient Bazaar offer clothing, leather coats, gold jewelry, carpets, ceramic dishes, exotic lamps, purses, textiles, cameras, watches, etc. Bargaining is expected on most items. I purchased small, woven purses from a nice man who had a small spot just outside of the bazaar itself. He didn't speak English and I don't speak Turkish, but we managed to close the sale. I purchased 5 purses for souvenirs and gifts, but as they were already very inexpensive, I did not see the need to bargain with the man just to save a euro or two. These purses, which resembled tiny Turkish carpets, were small & easily packable , so they were no problem to bring home as would have some other items such as the lamps which I liked so much,. We also purchased a small, Turkish carpet from another shop in the area of the Grand Bazaar.

For those who love postcards, Kusadasi has wonderful postcards for a very modest price--a postoffice is located close to the corner of Kabris Cad. & Liman Caddesi behind the Bazaar.

This is a very popular spot and it is wise to keep your wits about you when visiting the Orient Bazaar, although I had no problems and enjoyed "windowshopping." No one harrassed us or pushed us to buy anything. It would have been great to have some "people watching" time there and to see the ebb and flow people.

A great Base

by sigourney

Kusadasi- A large coastal resort with a booming cruise trade making it an expensive turkish resort (but still cheaper than england!)
A great place to base yourself for the sites, there's loads to do here, you have to bring a camera!
Enjoy!
