how much to pay?

by neelv

How much should I expect to pay for a taxi from the port to ephesus entrance and back? Is the taxi ride per person or metered or standard fare?

How much do the tour guides at the entrance gates charge?

I understand there is no bus option from the port to ephesus...

thanks,

this is something I have done 30 years ago, so I cannot tell you prices, but with 3-4 people on the taxi it should be afordable and a lot cheaper than the tours by the ship.
something else you should know :
order the taxi to get you to the upper entrance of Efesus, it is easy to walk down that way, dont miss the "Hanghäuser" - quite new excarvations on the left when walking down, maybe you need a seperate ticket for that.
then you walk to celsus library and theatre and the taxi will pick you up on the lower entrance.
dont pay in advance !

I agree with Globetrott! He's always got good advice.
Although I've been a few times over the last ten years I've always done the ship tour ----because the ship waits for latecomers only from a ships tour and I think that I wouldn't want to be left behind in Turkey.
What I will add is that you should try to be off the ship asap so that you are first through the gate at Ephesus ---it makes such a difference to be ahead of the throng of other tourists in this place.
You may want to view the tourist trap sections about both Kus. and Eph.
Oh, bootleg CDs in Kus are really good value but you need to find the right place for them: go to the square area in amongst the shops, in one of the side arcades there is a CD shop that is above the other shops. This shop also has a browsing warehouse. ask your ship's crew/DJ ---they'll know!
Have fun!

getting a taxi to ephesus from the port - as above, go to the upper entrance. there are no facilities in ephesus site, visit the toilet by the vendors before entering. at the bottom of the hill, there should be taxis to return you to the ship or for a stop at the house of mary. you should have plenty of time to see both but by reversing the usual bus tour route you will have a little less congestion.

the hillside houses do require a special admission ticket, about 8 or 10 lira as i recall. remarkable. worth the money.

Try 60 euros.
No meter for such a trip ; pay for full car, always.
Sure there is option to Selcuk but you will waste your time.

Never in my wildest dream

by tuff

It would never be in my wildest dream to visit Kusadasi until the cruise ship brought me here. I always have the perception of Kusadasi is just like in the Indiana Jones movies; the streets are dirty with dust and sand covered everywhere; street vendors are all over the place. Well, when I looked outside my window in the morning and I saw the cityscape, modern buildings, automobiles and paved roads. Not to mention the resorts that I came across later. Hello, Kusadasi!
