Well worth a visit.
We stayed at the hotel for 1 week. Booked package through Teletext website costing £500.00 each. This is a lot cheaper booking through main operators Goldtrail. This included 5 star all inc, transfers, in flight meals, sea view the works. Tickets did not arrive by post. In this instance all you do is contact the operator, advise and collect from Airport Agencies desk situated in main terminal - GLASGOW Airport. Flight left 1100 and took 4 hours 20 mins. Arrived in Bodrum. You need to pay £10.00 entry fee, so ensure you have English notes, Euros or the new Turkey lira. Temp ranged 34 -31 degrees.
Transfer agency was awaiting our arrival. Ended up on a small air conditioned coach on route to Kusadasi. This takes over 3 hours, however, there is a service stop half way through. When arriving at your hotel its defo worth the wait, only during the day.
Situated in a large obscured complex. There are no shops, supermarkets, pubs nearby. The room was adequate and clean. You need about 3 people to slide open the balcony door, it weighs a ton. There isnt a lot of wardrobe or drawer space, but just had to improvise. There is only 1 electric socket available. Remember the Safe is free for all inc - just get key from reception. Aircon was in good working order. Good balcony view overlooking part of the complex, sea. mountain and other hotels on the horizon. Don’t forget your mosquito repellent as we received quite a few bites. The lifts need recalibrating as they close extremely quick. Be advised the nearest public phone box is in Kusadasi.
All inc ends at 12. Three bar areas provide all local drinks including wine, beer, Turkish tea and coffee etc. Never had to wait more than a few minutes getting served during busy times. Staff were always alert and provided good standards of service. Everyone staying at the Hotel seemed friendly especially the Animation team who put a lot of hard work and effort into creating entertaining evenings to suit and adults and children.
Majority of people staying in hotel were folk from Belgium, France, Iran and turkey. There is a disco which starts at 2330 but you need to pay for drinks after 12.
Food was plentiful and there always a wide selection available each day. Meatballs and meatloaf usually on the agenda. Stay well away from the fish as bones are likely to choke you. Dessert wasn’t fab. Each day there was usually Turkish biscuit soaked with very sweet sugary water. There was no ice cream served. I do not recommend purchasing goods form the Hotel newsagents. Prices are 5 fold.
Tour operator were charging £29.00 each to be taken to Ephesus, place of historic interest. Don’t book it. Just do your own thing and jump on a wee bus outside the hotel at the security gate. The wee bus is frequent, every 10 minutes. It cost about 2 quid each way. When in Ephesus you can purchase a guide book costing 5 Turkish lira. You can also use the wee bus to travel into Kusadasi centre for 2.5 lira. There are numerous shops and malls. 100% original fake. Every trader wants to con you. Even when you think you are getting a bargain you later realise that you paid a fortune and got a raw deal. If you require a phone card buy one from the post office, you don’t get conned. The pharmacy tried to charge me £25 for antibiotics for a sore throat. When I complained they provided tablets for about £8.00.
Overall we had a marvellous stay. Try and get descent flight times as transfers are long and tiring. Bodrum airport stinks. They charge £5.00 for 2 coffees
Could not fault the Surmeli Hotel
We went to the Surmeli hotel after booking at the last min. After reading some of the reviews online I was sure I had made a mistake as most of them were not very positive. I was very surprised at what we found. I don't think there was anything we could fault.
We were just out of the season and the hotel was very quiet during the day but in the evening it was very busy. Some of the people we talked to said that there was not to much for the kids to do as the games room was not yet open (only at limited times). this did not bother us though.
We found the hotel to be very clean. The staff were excellent and all very friendly and all made an effort to speak english.
The food was far better than I expected with so much choice. There is something for everyone even if your a fussy eater.
They did more english dishes at lunchtime by the pool bar.
The rooms were very comfortable and cleaned daily and they had a lovely sea view.
We went all inclusive and thought it was well worth it as the local beers and wines were very nice and you can eat at almost anytime of the day (icecreams were not included).
Just a local bus ride into town which was very cheap.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of going to Turkey for the first time and I look forward to returning again. If your looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday then go out of season.
We have just returned from a week long stay at the Surmeli and it was brilliant!
we arrived at midnight so missed the all inclusive cut off but there was still room service on offer at a small cost if you wanted it.
Next morning we had a good look around the hotel and grounds which were fabulous! 3 gorgeous outdoor pools and one indoor. It was literally a 30 second walk to the beach which had beautiful glittering sand.
Most of the staff we so freindly and helpful night and day. very few walked by with out a smile for you!
The food was very varied. beakfast always has a option of some egg dishes, salads, cold meats, bread and toast, dont expect an English fry up you are going to a foreign country!
If you do like your chips try the pool side bar between 12 and 4.
The rooms were very comfortable and the shower was so powerful!
I would definately recommend this hotel to any one who does not have a love of complaining like so many in some previous reviews.
If you show respect to the staff they will bend over backwards to help you!
gorgeous hotel, fantastic holiday
This hotel is lovely and there is no way you could moan about it. The rooms are large, spacious and kept very clean with cleaning done every day. A bottle of water is delivered everyday and you have an empty fridge to keep it in as well as any other goodies you want to buy.
The service in the hotel and Turkey in general is fantastic and the staff are vey friendly and will do anything for you.
4 gorgeous pools in total and plenty of sun loungers plus a private stretch of beach in front of the hotel with glittery sand!!!
If you want to go into Kussadssi then get the phone number for Murphys or the Mayflower restaurant as they will send a taxi to pick you up and drop you back again later when you want to go back, so free ride and lovely food.
Another tip is to take the electricity fob off our keyring and leave in the slot so that your air con stays on all day and keeps the room cool - you will need it as it went to nearly 50 degrees on our last day! Also if you don't fancy the nightclb but want a late drink, the lobby bar stays open as long as theres customers to serve to
We had a fantastic holiday and recommend going to Adaland - one of the best water parks I've ever been to. If you looking for a lovely hotel in a gorgeous place then book the Surmeli. Be warned though that the transfer from the airport is 2 hours but its a lovely place definately worth paying that little bit more for the 5 star as reports from others on some 3 star hotels weren't very good.
Enjoy your holiday - we certainly did:-)
