Zeytin Pansiyon: Gem of a bed & breakfast
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Stayed one week at Zeytin Pansiyon and returned a year later for a five-day stay. There are 5 or six rooms, each with its own configuration. Most have own bathrooms, though cheaper ones have shared bathrooom. Located about 4-minute walk from downtown, the pension is in an old stone house that has been lovingly restored. Though slightly more expensive than other B&Bs in Ayvalik, the breakfast (and the owner, Necla Konukman) make it worth it! Ask if Necla can make her guzlemes (cheese-stuffed savory pastries) for breakfast. Best I ever had in Turkey!
The bed & breakfast is in a beautifully refurbished 100-year old, "Greek" stone house, full of charming antiques. There is a luscious garden (where breakfast is served and cool relaxing evenings can be enjoyed). Necla, the owner, is a fabulous cook and something of a "foodie" (She apparently one a prize at a local food festival competition for her stuffed artichokes.) Serves her own homemade jams with excellent local cheeses, olives, bread, and farmers-market fruits and vegetables. She has loads of suggestions on where to go and what to do in Ayvalik. Listen especially to her recommendations on restaurants; she knows them all and they know her.

Moshinos Otel: Boutique beauty.
Only opened this year and although not full of all those interesting local pieces, it is nicely furnished. Staff are very helpful, excellent breakfast.
With a/c but the rooms are quite high and cool, so we didn't use it.
Open all year.
The wife liked it so much, we are already booked to go back again this year.
Set up a quiet small side street, not hard, as most streets are!
Close to all the cafes, restaurants and shops.

Atun Pansiyon: At the center of Cunda
We discovered Cunda many years ago. We do not know where to stay at our first visit. We had seen the place in a movie with my dad and went there without any information. There was (and is) this small square at the back of post office and Taskahve in Cunda. We put our luggage under the trees and searched for a place to stay. Atun Pansiyon is the one near this square. We stayed there in our first time in Cunda and kept staying until we had our summer house.
The owners were two or more men, as far as I remember. And they were so kind. Sometimes we got there too late and they did not have any rooms. They made phone calls to search vacancy for us; even they helped us to get there.
This place has nothing to offer but the beds. They have clean rooms and baths, only. It is a simple pension. We were having our breakfasts in the cafés just near the sea. They were very modest breakfasts with cheese, tomatoes and pepper from the stores at the square, sometimes simit or Ayvalik toast, and tea, of course.
We had many lovely vacations there. I miss the breakfast without dish washing.
If you are searching a modest accommodation, this is a good choice.
It is located in the center. Just a few meters from the post office, taxi, bus stop, Taskahve...

Friends' Place: Rent a flat
Stayed with local friends studying in Ayvalik. They're renting flats over there and sharing the costs amongst them.... and it's very very cheap during wintertime that some students stay alone in a 2 or 3-room flat which costs between euro 100 - 150 per month!
And what more.... it's furnished.
The place was not exactly at the Ayvalik centre, rather it's in Sarimsakli, some kilometers away from Ayvalik center with one of Turkey's longest beaches that extends upto Izmir.
Most of the buildings in Sarimsakli or even in Ayvalik have flats for rent and there are lots of them in winter, though it gets more expensive during summer time when tourists come to Ayvalik.
In Sarimsakli, flats are more cheaper - if you are in group - you can always share the cost of the whole flat.
Fortunately, I stayed with student friends, it was an invitation, and had experienced the best of Turkish hospitality ... at its best!

Berk Otel: Great views
The hotel is not too impressive from the outside, but the warm welcome makes up for that. The rooms are large and cool, with airconditioning if you need it. Ask for a room on the front, overlooking the bay (through the telephone lines though!)
Good bathrooms, with plenty of hot water, standard Turkish buffet breakfast, but good on quality.... and remember to ask for a gozleme (pancake)
A good option if your main priority is to get out and about and a comfortable place to lay your weary head.

Cunda Otel: Great Location
our ground floor room opened straight onto the beach with two empty chairs waiting for us to enjoy a panoramic view of the bay.
Breakfast is a very relaxed affair on the terrace with the open buffet constantly restocked by helpful staff.
Great night's sleep, with good air conditioning to keep you cool and the only sound the puttering of the occasional night fishing boat.
right on the beach, fantastic view and only a five minute stroll to all the waterfront restaurants.
The hotel is architecturally a fairly standard two storey building, but the views and location more than compensate the lack of aesthetic.
