Travel Tips for Bolu

Kartalkaya skiing fun.

by Tdiver

Skiing in winter and hiking in summer and with 3 hotels to choose from you're spoilt for choice,23 ski runs and great views. We came with a tour for Sunday and Monday, stayed all inclusive except for foreign drinks, ski pass included and the coach fair from istanbul cost $142 from Radikaltur, unfortunately there web page is only in Turkish but they may speak English. They also do hiking, rafting and windsurfing tours( www.radikaltur.com ).Another one i've found is ( www.kayakturu.com ).Check the Kartal otel web page for a map of half the ski runs. Ski and boot rental is available,we stayed at the Grand Kartal hotel and rented there.I suppose the others would be similar in cost.Half day rental $15,full day $23

"Bolu, the biggest middle of no where ever!!"

Bolu, capital of the Western Black Sea Coast Region. Nowhere near the sea and almost slap bang in the middle of the central Anatolian Plateau.
Not a pretty place but full of great people - check out the Kurdish bar for legal alcohol!!!
Very near to the Kartalkya ski resort. Very cheap skiing and a hell of a lot of snow even in March. VVVVVery cold - 20c.
Not much to do, not much to see. Why did we go there?? It was free!!!

"Great market though"

Bolu's market is wonderful - even in the snow!! We bought a kilo of whitebait from the guy on the fish stall and he gutted and cleaned every single little fish!!! Service with a smile!!

"Snow good complaining"

Probably the cheapest skiing in the world - around £20 per day including ski passes, all the equipment or around £100 all inclusive per person for the weekend!!!

"Golcuk & Abant"

hey, no pictures, yet. but you should visit this tiny cutie town with a fabulous scene of many lakes among the mountains.
especially, at this season the lakes are frosen and the trees are covered with snow, look like a bride.and in spring and summer, another charming look comes. you see the lillies laying on the brilliant water. don't miss it out.
if you wanna stay there a few days, i can recommend Buyuk Abant Oteli just on the Abant lakeside.
