Istanbul Tip

The daily 'market' was really interesting. We watched as masses of people got off the bus carrying a bunch of their possessions, walked over to the front of a mosque or down by the docks, laid down a blanket or set up a table, put the items out on display and then tried to sell them. Unlike the shop keepers who were always trying to get our attention and 'help us spend our money,' these people would avoid even looking at us. I believe this is because they could not speak English and we could not speak Turkish. I still really enjoyed looking at everything. (this picture is hard to make out this small but if you click on it to get a better view you can see me in the midst of all of sellers)
Drinking tea.
by tere1
Tea is the national hot drink of Turkey. In Turkey, tea is not drunk from porcelain cups or mugs but in glass cups.
There are two types of tea: "koyu cay", the strong one and "acik cay" the light one. Beisdes that , one that is very popular with tourists is the "elma cayi", an apple tea. You can find this anywhere in Turkey. They sell them in small packets.
You can also buy tea from the "tea men" , who abound in Sultanahmet, next to the mosques, dressed with typical colourful clothes.
Ali Sami Yen Stadium - Galatasaray SK
by vichatherly
Home of Galatasaray SK. A 24,000 all-seater ground, named after the founder of the club.
The ground has an awesome reputation for its atmosphere, with fans getting into the ground 4-6 hours before kickoff.
My first attempt to get in the ground in November 1993 was unsuccessful, due to the police stopping me. But I travelled back the following year, in September 1994, and was more successful.
Galatasaray are in the process of building a new, bigger and more modern stadium with a capacity of over 50,000, but maybe the new place won't feel or sound like the "Hell" of the old one.

Just walk around Istanbul. It is really old, and the urban renewal fortunately has never been extremely popular here. The old wall of the city mostly remains, its ancient brick often forming one of the walls of an adjoining home.
Grand Bazaar !
by 80-bettyboo
The biggest bazaar in Istanbul with almost 5,000 shops ! Actually the most well-known bazaar in the world with lots of goods and dodgy salesman around..( my firend, my friend I have a good discount for ya - where are ya from, oh I have a bro there etc ...) Handpainted ceramics, copperware , brassware , meerschaum pipes , carpets , leather , jewelry .... Don't forget bargain alot, the first price will never be the last .normally they are making the price twice-three times more and when u bargain and buy it, you reckon u get a good deal but I'm sorry they can still rip ya off.
