New Year

by mike1927

Hi
Thinking of coming to Istanbul for New Year (30th December - 2nd January). Would this be a good time to visit? Will many of the 'attractions' be open? and where's best area to stay?

Many Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike. Dont think too much. Book your ticket to Istanbul to your 1001 adventures. Dont forget Istanbul will be cold or rainny. Brink your war cloaths. rain fest walking shoos. All the attractions will be open.Only on the morning of Jan 1st there will be nobody on the roads. They will all be sleeping because of the last nights celeprations and parties. Sultan Ahmet or Taksim are the best areas to stay. Have a good New Year in Turkey.

We were there during the new year of 2007, but i'm there at least twice a year. If u like to have fun with the locals during the new year celeb, stay in Taksim, that's whre the action is, but if u want to be near the popular historical sights Sulatanahmet is the area, but sleeps at night. U may stay in Sultanahmet if u really choose so but if u spend the new year in Taksim, transport is a bit hard during the midnight of the 31st. here's my story of that new year celebration -

Whether to stay in Taksim or Sultanahmet? Here's my view:

I like both areas so I stay at both if I have the time.

Have fun!

Travel Tips for Istanbul

When sightseeing Istanbul...

by Koleno

When sightseeing Istanbul there are several major sites that anyone traveling to Istanbul must see. Starting with the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sohia and Topaki Palace. These three fantastic sites are all located near each other and should be seen all in the same day. The other site we enjoyed was the Grand Bazaar, it was truely unlike anything we have ever seen before. Rice Pudding, Grand Bazaar and sailing from port at dusk with Istanbul skyline in background was a favorite memory.

Kuleli Military School

by Erkmen

When you take a boat tour on the Bosphorus, you will definitely spot this building on the Asian side.. If you dont have a tour guide with you then you may not know what this building is for.. Cause it is rarely in the Tourist guides..

The building is "Kuleli Military School".. In the past it was also called as the presidential School :) , due to numerous number of Military ques before 1980's..

The school is educating military students for nearly 160 years.. And this Historical building on the Edge of the Bosphorus carries more important than it is construction..

gossip bizz?

If this was Spain, Mexico or Venezuela or a VT Forum, this ladies (and ladies alike guys) would be disecting alive the new girl in the neighborhood.

- Did you see her big a*s and they way she use the jeans? Ave Maria Putisima!!!, etc, etc...

In Istanbul Sunday afternoon I think there is less time for such an entertainemetn. The city has been vibrating for centuries with commerce, with explosive political situations... Surely this ladies were talking about more important things than bashing their neighbors.

Beaches around Istanbul/Dalya

by traveloturc

Many of the VT members asks if there are any beach around istanbul.Although Istanbul is entoured with seas its difficult to swim in the city and beaches are located mostly in Black Sea Coast."Dalya" is one of this beach situated in demircikoy. This is a private beach which you can enjoy also its restaurant facilities.
