The Goldern Horn
by dabuwan
This small "fiord" is somehow the heart of old Istanbul. The Galata bridge, that crosses the Golden Horn at its narrowest point, is a real experience with all its crowded bars, shops and restaurants (though I'm afraid it has been heavily refurbished in the last years).
Not enough English...Not enough Turkish
by Guzzie19
As an English speaker I encountered that English is not well spoken there. BUt you may find
some turks that speak Spanish. But here are the words that I used the most during my stay:
* No = Yok
* ok = Tammam
* Sharwma or kebab = Doner
* Cheers = Sherefe
* Ice = Buz
* Tea = Cay
* One Beer = Bir Bira
Dont try to speak any Arabic to Turks. They are fans of their own country, it feels like an insult if you try to speak this language. Even though some of their words come from Arabic, they just dont like it. I never heard Marhaba in any place.
Good quality film
by ddevronn
If you've run out of film in your camera and need to buy some more, try to buy from photography shops and busy malls. Small shops and groceries also tend to have some, but you can never be sure of how long they have been there, and under what conditions.
EATING AL FRESCO
by parsix
It was the begining of Spring and after a long winter, what better than get some fresh air.
Istanbul is just the perfect place for outdoor activities as it's proximity to the water provides many options for a day out.
Where to buy caviar?
by Gokcecicek about Urfa Pazar?
If you want to buy cheap but good caviar (Azerbaijan Caviar), this place is a good one.
They have different qualities of caviar which you can also taste before buying.
When we were buying caviar for our friends, Ersan was helping us. If he is still there, he will help you as well. Depends on which quality of caviar you will buy and how much.
